<< So he called up Dell and tried to get them to send him a new card that would, even a simple plain jane ATI card would do. >>

So the kid expected Dell to send him a new video card just because he asked?

Why would a hardware company offer technical support for games? The developers have thier own tech support.

There isn't much of a reason for them to support a product written by somebody else. If he wants a better video card in the computer he can buy one, or do what he should have done in the first place: Buy an OEM. People all too often fail to realize that name brand computers trim the fat around the edges and often this fat is in the form of a good video card being turned into a crappy one.

Really he could have bought a dell with a nice vid card in it tho!

You guys are missing the point. It wasn't that he was asking them to support his game. It was that they said they didn't support ANY game. He called them back to ask to return the whole computer because he was so mad, and they wouldn't even budge to save a customer. All it would have taken was one little 8 dollar 8mb agp card. Instead they responded with a blanket lie saying that their systems didn't support ANY games... Read the whole email guys...games may change settings in the computer and interfere with normal functioning....what kind of BS is that?

I bought a DELL for my Grandma, but she got tired of it so she overclocked mine and set the house on fire, she burnt to death trying to put out fire.

*sniff* I'll miss the lady

sounds like you are missing the point. They don't HAVE to support anything they didn't install on the computer when they shipped it to your friend. And why would he expect Dell to send them the so-called measly 8 dollar AGP card? It's like saying that since my car doesn't play my music with enough bass lets ask Ford to please send me a pair of 12" subs?
It's the game developer who has to support the game, not the hardware company.

Dell doesn't support Maya, Lightwave, Photoshop, any game, or in fact anything that they have not preinstalled on the Dell box.

If you want support for a software application that did not come preinstalled on your Dell box, you need to consult with the software vendor, not with Dell.

Gotta agree with amiga on this one. I wouldn't expect Dell or IBM or Compaq or any other PC manufacturer to support games. It's up to the developer of the game to support it, not the company that put together your computer.

I think DTF is misinterpreting the email. The email, from technical or customer support, says "WE don't support games" and not "our systems don't support games".

<< You guys are missing the point. It wasn't that he was asking them to support his game. It was that they said they didn't support ANY game. >>

Nor should they. What's the point in wasting your time and money trying to support a product you are not responsible for, and likely not familiar with? You sound like the morons who call our tech support (ISP) demanding help with Real Player or Yahoo! Chess.

<< He called them back to ask to return the whole computer because he was so mad... >>

LOL!

<< ...and they wouldn't even budge to save a customer. >>

Why should they? Customers like your "friend" are the ones most companies are better off without, anyway.

<< All it would have taken was one little 8 dollar 8mb agp card. >>

I've had many calls escalated to me from customers who are upset about their connection speed. If a customer with a 33.6 modem wants a faster connection, should my company spend $8 for a crappy PC-Tel 56k modem? Hell no!

<< Instead they responded with a blanket lie saying that their systems didn't support ANY games... >>

No, they said we don't support any games...they said nothing about whether or not games will run on their systems. "Read the whole email..."

<< games may change settings in the computer and interfere with normal functioning....what kind of BS is that? >>

It's the truth. I've had more games cause problems after installation than any other type of program.
