Please recommend a backpack for business professional use

My wife likes to carry everything in her purse. But the purse wasn't made to carry ipads, macbooks or the occasional large financial book. I've twice had to call the manufacturer and had them replace the bag and I'm getting tired of doing so. For me, I eschew suitcases and still carry my Northface backpack from undergrad and grad school. It doesn't fit in but it hasn't broken down yet and I'm too cheap to replace something when it works perfectly fine. Can someone recommend a discrete-looking backpack for laptops? I don't know much about them. I found this on Macy's website. Is that good? Will it last?

Heck, GE hands out backpacks with their laptops. You even have a roller bag option for engineering laptops.

Kelty, The North Face, Patagonia.. they'll all be durable, just avoid walmart.

I have The North Face Big Shot. I keep my laptop in it everyday. It's getting a little worn after 3 years, but I use it as a daypack too.

It might be easier for you to find any generic backpack, then get a padded insert...which is essentially what the made-for-laptops bags have anyway.

I never spent more than $20 on backpack to carry my things to the office.
The one I'm on now has lasted about 7-8 years carry my umbrella and laptop.
Its a Jansport. Its carried all my crap from car->train to 1 mile walk in NYC in all sorts of weather.
I also use it as my trunk on the motorcycle (but not that often)
I've had pricer backpacks in the past but in the end it was just straps and pockets I did not need and they didn't last any longer. So now I just get whatever is on sale at Walmart\BJs\Target and is in a shade that doesn't show a lot of filth or grime.
I work in a professional environment. I'm pushing 40.

I have used this companies backup for over 10+ years of work and it has gone also on vacation and just keeps going. I would probably recommend if you want discreet to go with something like the boot on the website and then you can put it in a nice bag.

Throw out your back a few times and you'll appreciate the way a backpack avoids asymmetrical loading. I'll take a few odd looks over having to lay on the office floor for a few hours because I can't stand up. Sciatica is a royal pain.
