I'm building a new system and I need a CD-RW. I want to stick with 48x write or lower and I need it in black. I'd like to keep it at under 70 bucks, it seems crazy to spen alot on one nowadays. I hear that the Sanyo's are the same drives as the plextor's, only cheaper, anyone know where to find them?

Thanks

Anthony

Oh, and if I buy OEM will I nee to get drivers or any other software besides the burning software?

And what kind of cable would I need to buy? And does it have a length limit like ATA drives that are supposed to stay under 18"?

Thanks

You can get Liteon, Plextor, Sony, Samsung, Optorite, Teac, Yamaha in black. I think the liteon will be the cheapest though. All you need is the IDE cable and maybe the audio cable. As for software, most oem drives come with the drivers cd. When you buy it though, it should say on the site if it comes with software or not.

agreed, you can get them from newegg, prices are fine.

Is there anyone on the AT forums who doesn't recommend Lite-On for people on a budget looking for a CDRW? If there is, I don't know any of them. Lite-On makes excellent drives for cheap, go with them.

My first CDRW was a Plextor. They are a seriously quality drive. You can tell when you install it, mine weighed twice as heavy as other drives. But then the laser has twice the lifetime of most other models.

But it was getting slow (relative to current speeds) so I sold it on to get a liteon...

My first liteon when went kaputt after 5 months of regular but not extreme use. I got a replacement from the vendor under warranty. That's working and has done happily for the last 8 months.

I dare say the guy who has my Plextor will still be running it long after my Liteon dies.

One benefit of liteons is they seem to be happy to burn on any old krap media.
