xi'an famous foods on St. Marks. get the A1
81 St. Marks Pl, New York, NY 10003
Xi'an Famous Foods is a must-try. I'd say go to the Chinatown branch on East Broadway as it'll probably be the least busy at this point, now that they have two other branches in Manhattan. I like the pork burger, the spicy cumin lamb noodles, and the Mt Qi pork noodles personally. But everyone's got their favorites

Flushing,Simply put, the largest China Town on the eastcoast. Try the Golden Mall (basement)
-Golden Shopping Mall - while not a cart, but rather a dingy basement warren of food stalls, much of what is served there is indeed street food from various regions of China.
-In Flushing, I second the Xinjiang cart on Main/Sanford mentioned by E Eto. I usually get the lamb, but they also have lamb kidney, squid and duck. Then there's the "duck taco" stand on Main/40th Rd for Cantonese Peking duck in a steamed bun.
-Xingxiang kabab carts in Flushing

from my own previous research

Actually Flushing is largely Korean. So, you are best off looking for a good Korean restaurant.

I spent a lot of time in Flushing and I would say I have never eaten at a Korean place. Lots of good Chinese places though.

I would say I go here a lot:

http://www.yelp.com/biz/nan-xiang-dumpling-house-flushing

t
That's probably my favorite places. My parents would know more about the dim sum places but I really don't remember the names anymore. There's a lot of good places to eat. I don't know much about any of the nice uppity ones, just the ones for us common folk.

Edit:
You are incorrect. Based on the 2010 census, Flushing zip code has 51.7% Chinese and 6.4% Korean.

Yeah that's the Flushing that I remember.

Korean "cuisine" tastes the same in every single restaurant.

Walk down Prince Street and pick a place. Done.

I would avoid 66 and Joe's at all cost. Nan Xiang is superb compared to joes.. Joe's chinatown branch are much better.

66 - Went from C to A to B (passed by today), its not clean, you often find crap in your food, rubber band, hair, cigs, etc.. I dont know how these place stay in business. There's a taipei 101 like 2 blocks away thats by the LIRR stations/basketball place that is much cleaner and larger.

Places to avoid

-Corner 28, place shut down completely by health dept multiple times - still in business but would you really risk it ?

-Big bowl aka red bowl - opposite corner of Corner 28, same issue, shutdown by health dept - this place actually has the worse food and service, you can't get service but when you tip bad, they start speaking english to you

-Red chopstick - across the big bowl/red bowl place, same issue shutdown multiple times

--

The new world mall across corner 28 actually has some decent stuff, the dimsum on 3rd/4th floor isn't bad, has wide variety of food but they're rated as B..

The Nan xiang dumpling as mention above is pretty good but service is lacking, they recent expanded again to the place next door, business is booming so they can afford it.. food is good but service blows

40th road by the lirr/basketball section has some interesting food, but just avoid the B & C rating places, you do not want to get sick, there are a few A's on that block

And since you're at flushing, Coco Tea, quickly, Kung Fu tea are all good. I would avoid the "pearls" or bubbles, they're chemically made and often not fully cooked. I would get pudding with the "bubble teas"

Next to Joe's is Imperial Palace - used to be good, they cut back on the portions, still not bad by expensive compared to before, I think they have a B, they have 2 locations.

Theres Mellies far from downtown main st, corner of Northern Blvd and Union, its almost as good as Imperial Palace but just further walk .

That's too bad. I never had a problem with 66 when I went for brunch. Food was good and never had any of the stuff you mentioned. However It's been almost two years since I've been back to the east coast.
