my WTF suggestion........... Borat........ seriously, WTF?!

maybe... maybe you shouldn't see The Fountain. While stylistically and completely different from Requiem, it's the same director. And I don't want you stomping your claims of suckage on The Fountain. Bad enough you stomped all over my love of Requiem.

What was it you didn't like about Requiem? The crazy video editing? I hear that is what turns people away most often.

lol. i dont think the editing was it actually. i dont mind oddball artistic visuals. i just didnt think the movie itself was great. the plot, the story line, the acting. i just wasnt impressed. its possible that it had been built up so high from others that i just was not enthralled by it. i thought it was rather stupid. i wasnt driven from ever doing drugs like some people claimed it had that effect. it was just, i dunno, i cant put my finger on it.

i am very open-minded when it comes to movies so i could give the fountain a chance.... im a plot person and i just was not enraptured by requiem's. it had no relevance to my life and just couldnt really hold my interests. oh well! lol you win some, you lose some

was this good? i wanna see this too...

Yeah I thought it was entertaining. Mark Wahlberg sort of plays his typical character but with a hippie twist, it was just a weird ass movie but in a good way. I actually missed the beginning and still enjoyed it.

Another vote for Gummo. Gummo was one of those 'I can't unwatch this, but I can't turn away' movies, made even more mind-blowing because I can totally see this being some backwoods hick town documentary.

I have been looking for the title of this movie for so long, I saw it once several years ago and need to own it, thanks!

Santa Sangre wins this thread, it's THE most F'd up movie I've ever seen. It will haunt you to your core.

Magnolia
Being John Malkovich

They're both pretty crazy.. Magnolia is annoyingly retarded. It keeps grasping at being profound - but instead it's just a bunch of random bullshit.

was it a good "WTF" or a "WTF, that was the shittiest lames movie ive ever seen"?
because i was interested in seeing it.... and am not sure i should!

no, it's definitely a very good WTF. first time seeing it kind of blows your mind. if you're like me, you'll probably watch it a few times, and each time completely change what you think. or potentially 'get it' like some people did the first time around. you'll either love it or hate it. if nothing else, the movie has amazing visuals. so, make use of that if you're into anything 'natural'.

well lots of sh*tty movies are wtf. the fountain was a wtf movie full of fail.

WHAT? these movies are FAR from mainstream. They're extremely popular among certain groups of people, but in no way fall under "mainstream." Clockwork is the only one that wouldn't be considered independent, and even then...it's not a film that the casual viewer has seen.

I'd say you have an overall good taste in movies based on your posts, but considering these films as mainstream reflects an extremely narrow and sadly limited exposure to film as a whole.

Regardless, "mainstream" has nothing to do with the OP's WTF category.

well, if Borat confuses or disturbs you, then I wonder why you would even consider approaching Requiem?

For me, Requiem is one of those great flicks that I never want to see again: I was terribly uncomfortable and disturbed the first time I saw it (probably has something to do with the particular theater where I saw it), and says everything that really needs to be said about addiction.

Honestly, I don't understand why people continue to make drug movies, as Requiem said everything that needed to be said, and I can't see anything being more effective in driving the message home.

Disagree.
But The Fountain is a love it or hate it movie. There seems to be no in-between. Either you really enjoyed it in whole, or absolutely hated it. I love it for a variety of reasons, and one reason that has nothing to do with the movie itself is just how much Aronofsky poured into it. I had known this prior to seeing it, so it may have had an effect on my original judgment of the movie (that, and well... something else that was involved in my first viewing ), but after numerous re-watches, I still absolutely love it. Love the characters and the overall message the film delivers.
In case you watched it and didn't know what to think of everything and hated it for that, watch it again but focus entirely on the 'present' storyline.

There are plenty of other "drug movies" that just as good if not better. There will continue to be many made as well. Not sure why this is hard to understand either.

This film also does not say everything that needed to be said. It's purely a warning about the addictive power of drug use & how it can change people or their situations.

I love this film, I just find your statements strange.

yeah, you can take different perspectives, such as focusing on the futility of the "War on drugs" as was done in Traffic, but you can get the same message through Requiem. When you see the darkest aspects of addiction in such a visceral manner, it doesn't take much to understand how pointless the "war" is, without it being explicitly addressed.

I understand what you're saying, but Requiem does cover the essential themes revolving around drugs and addiction, implicitly or not. The nature of addiction being the most salient issue, I haven't seen anything that surpasses the message of Requiem.
