Please recommend some portable RPGs/long games

I'm going on a trip out east in May. Taking the train so I'm going to be in transit for quite some time. What are some good portable RPGs or other longish games for passing the time.

I've got a DS, PSP, and an iPad to play with.

RPG wish I've already got....
-Disgaea 1 & 2, but OMG the grinding... the grinding. [shudders in terror]
-Pokemon Diamond, which I've finished

I've played a lot of Japanese RPGs. Any decent western ones on the portables?

DS games, of course Castlevania is always pretty solid as are Zelda and Phoenix Wright games. Dragon Quest IX is good as well and not too short as is Final Fantasy IV. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is a great GTA for handhelds. My favorite DS game still is Elite Beat Agents, it's nto a long game but so damn fun.

PSP I'd go for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Dissidia: Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops or Peace Walker, and God of War: Chains of Olympus.

Persona 3 if you haven't already played it on PS2.

Jagged Alliance 1 for DS is turn-based strategy with some RPG elements (squaddies with real personalities, equipment, skills that level up with practice). It is JA_1_ though, despite using the art from JA2. Edit: it's also dirt cheap at Amazon right now ($8).

any Dragon Warrior game is bound to have 80+ hours of gameplay.

Chrono Trigger is a great game, and even more so now that it's ridiculously cheap.

The various Mario and Luigi games (Partners in Time, Bowser's Inside Story) are hilarious and pretty lengthy if you like exploration elements. Bioware did a Sonic RPG with similar combination turn-based/minigame combat elements called Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.

The entire Etrian Odyssey series is a low story content, dungeon-crawling timesink, but with so many class and ability choices, you probably won't want to bother with characters and a story anyway.

Kingdom Hearts 368/2 Days is more of a mission-oriented action game than an RPG, but it's got a decent amount of gameplay depth.

I'll second persona 3, dragon quest 9, and chrono trigger. I'll also throw in erm, what the heck was that long ass name? Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier?

Disgaea 1 and 2 (on PSP) - grinding isn't bad, going through the main storylines isn't hard to do. You only need to grind if you want to do the extra stuff. And D2 is must easier to grind anyway.

I think you meant, Crisis Core.

Advent Children is an animated sequel to FF7.

iPad wise, check out Galaxy on Fire 1 or 2, Both have "Lite/free" versions of the game, along the lines of space RPG/Exploration.

You can also get some Square-Enix RPGs on the iPad. I picked up Chaos Rings when it was on sale for about 7 days (ended on 3/31).

There are also some other fun RPGs or Action RPGs on iOS. Dungeon Hunter and Dungeon Hunter 2 are fun if you like Diablo. They've also got a RPG called Sacred Odyssey: Rise of Ayden. As a note, it's not actually free... you purchase it via an in-app purchase, but if you don't do the in-app purchase, some of the game is available to play (like a demo).
