well I could lower my E8500 to 1.6-1.7 which is about how a 5000 X2 is and test with my 8600gt. really not worth the trouble since I benchmarked and tested stuff until I was sick of it last year. thats the reason I built this pc 11 months ago because I absolutely could not get the performance I was happy with while using the 5000 X2. the difference even when you using a slower card like the 4670 was very noticeable but more importantly it gave me the incentive to go ahead and get a higher end card.

If you didn't get the hint, I don't trust your results. So I probably wouldn't trust them if you ran new ones. I'd have to run my own. I have two Athlon X2s, an 8600GT, and the HD3850. So I'm curious to see if they hold up in Crysis and Far Cry 2.

But from my user experience, there is a world of difference even on these slower Athlon X2s.

yeah I guess fraps, real world gameplay and built in benchmarks were all wrong. lol. I know what my experience was like with multiple cards and multiple set ups and if you dont believe me then that is fine.

I used to have a 6600gt agp with my athlon xp 2600+. It was quite difference when I moved the 6600gt to a computer with an E6300.

His cpu will likely limit framerates enough at high settings that there's little point in getting a significantly better gfx card. So at low or medium settings, a 4670 is more than good enough.

I'm convinced that an HD4670 would fulfill LoStZ's needs quite well, especially when the 4850 would cost much much more than a 4670 and be significantly limited by the cpu anyways. No real data to support what I just said, but just my mere opinion.

Honestly yeah a 4670 for $40 would be nice boost. Assuming you actually get your rebate.

With that power supply, I would suggest the 9600GT or the 4850. I am running a 9600GT with an E4500 and am quite happy (for a low end system) with the performance at 1440x900. I would have preferred a 4850, but my power supply is not up to it and I did not want to upgrade the power supply. There is nothing wrong with the 4670 either, but the 9600GT is somewhat faster in most games, and your power supply is more than adequate.

Just don't get a DDR2 4650. I had one for a while and thought it would be close to the max my system could use. I was very disappointed in that card. It was not very fast out of the box and was a terrible overclocker.

However, if you paid more and got the 4850 you could perhaps use it later in another comp or upgrade the CPU in the one you have.

Out of your first list I would pick the 4770 just on performance

However, since you have a fairly small budget and a slower cpu, I think you should budget less for the gpu and also upgrade the cpu.

That 4670 that s44 posted is a great deal and the best bang 4 the buck deal posted so far (unless I missed some). Yes the 9600GT is faster but you save $25. A 9800GT is also worth considering if you get it for a good price.

If you don't want that 4670, just keep checking the Hot Deals forum for good deals.

and I'm using an eVGA 9600GT SSC at 1920x1080 and I'm happy with it (no AA though)

color me surprised, but I actually somewhat agree with toyota. a 4670 for $40 AR is a no brainer for the OP. 4850 is a hell of a lot better card, but he needs to save for a new cpu. I would look at spending $40 for the 4670 and $80 or so for a cpu upgrade.

Which is why I said there was most likely a problem with your setup. I know what my experience is with these two setups and I think you're way off base.

Obviously he does realize that, as evidence when he stated he wish he could have (the performance of) the HD4850, but he had to settle for the 9600GT.

I ended up just grabbing a 4670 for now. Though I was really really tempted to get a 4770 or 4850 for some reason. Anyways, thanks for all the replies everyone.
