Yeah, I realize that most of you all are Windows users and gamers, and that's fine. I chose to ask for your opinions anyway since I ran across that AnandTech guide that I keep mentioning, and it looked like it was intended for the purposes that interest me. So, I thought I might as well ask for a system review here. Hope that makes sense.
I'd go with 1 GB of RAM total for sure (2 X 512 MB) if it were not for the fact that the PC will be running the laptop. That's the etherboot thing. Essentially, this means that the laptop will be relying on the CPU, RAM and GPU of the system I'm building, which will work as a kind of server. I haven't set anything like that up yet, but I've read enough howto's to know that it is quite possible.
So if there are two of us working on the system (using the office apps I mentioned and maybe qemu as well as Wine) and at the same time we're listening to music, trying to record TV, and maybe even burning a DVD too... Well, that just seems like a lot of stuff going on at once. And that's why I've listed the X2 processor and the "extra" RAM.
But maybe it's too much Linux stuff for anyone here to form an opinion, and if so, no worries.
