Please review this song that I'm a part of!!!

Yea, but you'd think a city with a rich jazz tradition such as KC wouldn't play smooth jazz on the radio. Oh well......

yes, you'd think that there would be a lot of interest, but I think radio (and most media) are more about money than anything else. About the only place to get real jazz, blues or folk is on the community radio station, everything else is the same old corporate programming

I listed to "Discover Me" and one thing that I noticed immediately when it started was that I thought it was too busy. The congas didn't give it groove, but was a distraction to me. I'm going to listen to again later and see if I still think so then.

You're right on. I think the congas would be great, but they are all over the place time-wise. I'm gonna get Carlos to overdub that when he gets the choice.

Its a pretty good song, something I would hear on soft hits radio. The only part I don't like is when the guy sings "Won't you discover meeeee" It sounded a little off rhythm and a little forced. But its helluva lot better than many songs I hear on radio nowadays.

Alright, on second hearing...build the song in layers. Too much to take in at first. Some ideas, no drums (or other fill)....establish the groove first. Make sure that the pocket is there, otherwise the song falls apart. If you're looking to get signed, the first 12 seconds is crucial. About 2 minutes into the song, you finally got that groove down. The drums make that happen.

A big majority of waht i notice is in the beginning. Slowly build the song and then hit that pocket. Other than that, everyone's got great chops and rhythm, just make it synergize and you're good to go. Sweet sound.

I will remix it without congas to see how it plays out.... This is not what all of our tunes sound like anyway... so smooth-jazz should not be what we are known for.

Personally, I like the conga track, although rough in some places, I think it's nice.

I will throw up a remix in the near future.
