Ok, I think I have the system that I can afford, that meets my needs, and has room for growth. My computer needs are for a quiet, reliable system, that I will not be overclocking, but will be playing games such as bf2 and hl2. Please look at the following set up and let me know what you think or if you see any thing that I missed! Thanks

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200KS 320GB
LITE-ON 16X DVD±R DVD Burner W/ LightScribe
Antec LifeStyle SONATA II Piano Black Computer Case

Total build price $1216 with shipping.

For a little more you could go dual-core with an Athlon X2 3800+.

Also, if you're planning on overclocking, you may want some higher end RAM.

And finally, go with the PSU Extelleron recommended.

Yes, by the order of about 200mhz. From what I've read, the dual-core chips are irrelevant to gaming given that the games are currently only written to take advantage of a single core. The idea is that one day soon they will be, so when that happens then the 3800+ could have a significant advantage. But for right now, NOPE.

I will eventually upgrade the processor. But this fits into my budget right now and leaves room for a decent PCU upgrade in the future.

About the PSU, the one that comes with the Case, I haven't seen any negative reviews for it, and I don't see this rig as being a major power consumer, with only one Video Card, one optical drive, and one hard drive. But I don't know a lot about that aspect, so I would appreaciate a little education as to why I will need more. Thanks!

The X1900XT is a massive power hog, it draws more than a prescot does at full speed. But I think it should be alright, you've got 30A or so on two rails which is enough to power the rig.
