It is unique, yes, but not a Person. It isn't even as much of a person as the dead skin under your nails when you scratch yourself, for a period of time.
Apparently there is some disagreement between those two versions on the passage in question. NIV uses the terms miscarry and womb. The King James translation doesn't even say the lady was pregnant.

The King James uses odd terminology, at least to us. "Defiled" means she is pregnant by another Man.
