Welcome to the community and to the addiction of tech following.

I am assuming by 'tech' you mean consumer electronics.
Just for the news, you can visit cnet.com (mostly consumer electronics), theverge.com, engadget.com (same as cnet). Just don't read the reviews too seriously in these sites, use them for the news only.

tomshardware.com (mostly PC hardware related, but also consumer electronics) is good for both news and reviews.

For very thorough analysis and reviews of tech products, none other than anandtech.com.

If you want science, go for discovery or nat geo sites, guardiantech etc.

For more advanced science related stuff, "Nature" (www.nature.com) is a good source, though you will not get access to the full articles without a subscription but you will get to know what's up in the world.

Hope this helps. And as you go along, you will find reference to other such sites in the above mentioned sites and then start visiting those.

I am sure other members of the community will suggest you a whole lot of other sites which may be better.

Anandtech, engadget

Not The Verge. They've turned into an annoying, preachy "culture" site, and even what technology news they still report is tainted. Avoid that nonsense.

anandtech.com
engadget.com
theverge.com
imore.com
androidcentral.com
wpcentral.com
winsupersite.com

For more PC based news...

pcper.com
hardocp.com
techreport.com

I'd probably avoid bgr.com, mostly idiot reporting and click baiting. I thought it was an good site at one time, but gone to complete crap now.

Tom's Hardware and Engadget are the only others I look at if I'm not on AT. Unfortunately, all the once useful Android sites have become so commercial it's hard to wade through the ads to get to good.info.

Beat me to it.

Ars Technica and Android Police are still worthwhile even though they can be annoying in their various ways. I also have TechRadar on my feed for rumors and short announcements (they're also UK/Aus, so it balances the heavy US-centric bias of most sites).

Anyone read recode?

Ars and Anandtech are my main go-to sources, and should cover mostly everything important, and they do it well.

I also read The Verge, but ONLY because it covers stories that wouldn't get covered by other tech sites. It really is an all-encompassing "culture" blog. I avoid the long form articles and editorials though, they are mostly garbage. Check em out for the links to other REAL articles, but skip the garbage editorials and reviews.

Hi you can go through mashable.com, knowyourhandheld.com, engadget.com, as according to me they are the best.

ARS Technica I like also but haven't even looked in awhile.

I always take most thing off Tom's Hardware with a grain or two of salt personally.

And here of course.

I used to like another that I won't mention, they have gotten a burr up their butt lately.

Don't even go there anymore, and I was even on the Folding Team there awhile.

Anyways.

I don't really read a whole lot for "tech" per se anymore, if by that you mean hardware reviews and the like. In general I am not updating my hardware ever or anytime soon.

But for in depth and usually related to technology reporting, I like both Arstechnica and Techdirt. Also DSLReports and (of course) Anandtech forums.

This is truth.

Their ideas of culture are also just far flung with no real discourse. It's all clickbait. I'm close to ditching polygon (gaming site but same parent company) for the same reasons.

That and I can't stand Ben Kuchera.

The Verge sucks. Unless you really want to read about tech culture. And even then you'll have to wade though countless articles that have nothing to do with tech whatsoever. (Katy Perry anyone?) And David Pierce is a terrible writer. Shame because Topolsky is a good writer IMO and engaging personality on his former podcast.

Engadget IMO really covers tech news well. They print timely articles with little BS inbetween.

I also read Ars Technica and Re/Code daily.

For my Android and Apple fix I frequent Android Authority/Central/Police and Apple Insider/Mac Rumors/9to5Mac/Daring Fireball daily.

I strongly advise against BGR. It's total clickbait and it drives me nuts.

When a piece of hardware hits the market that I'm interested in I'll read any professional review I can find and check out YouTube video reviews from popular channels like MKBHD.

I also listen to PocketNow Weekly, Cubed, ATP, and The Talk Show podcasts however I FF to the parts I care about and sometimes skip episodes entirely.

Wow - I really thought I was the only person that hated The Verge.

I actually like their mobile podcast to an extent - but I do hate the amount of nonsense they have on the site - and lately, even the reviews are less about the product, and more about "hey, look at our cool website layout and our awesome new-age photography!"

If you're interested in the business side of tech (or you're just looking for a startup to invest in), you might want to look at TechCrunch as well.

I have to recommend Slashdot as well. Not for the articles (they are usually a day behind), but the well moderated comments are interesting.

Even Anandtech is getting big time ad money from AMD now.

Full time tech research and reporting isn't cheap if any site were to continue quality reporting and articles. Have to subsidize it somehow without going into the subscriber method - in potentially or definitely limiting traffic (remember Anandtech forums offering a subscription? I did, guess what isn't here anymore?).

But at least, if the site isn't bogged down, or keeps a neutral perspective (nigh impossible, writers write in their own viewpoints - and through the reader, there is extrapolation if it matches what we find out of the researched information and applied personal use.

Even then, a single review may not encompass a use scenario. I can think of ONE BIG ONE with the latest Surface Pro 3 article of Anandtech that can EASILY be tested - the handwriting comparison in OneNote. But not such a screen shot was taken, or even emphasis on the pen in that aspect other than a paragraph blurb - which can easily be shown to readers in images handwriting your thoughts.

Though, I appreciate some of the numerical, empirical analysis which I suspected all along.

Back on topic:

Anandtech, still is the source for me, even this day and age - extending back when I first scoured tech site reportings. But my visits to the main site have been few and far between, most of the tech tricklings are had elsewhere in sniffing information.

Engadget is a good one, but has a bit of bias there too (some commenters note it is heavily in Apple's favor at one point).

Some of the surprising places one wouldn't think, would be Tumblr - depending on what blogs you follow. It may not be comprehensive in reviews, but interesting things have came about on some feeds.

It depends on what tech you want info on. Anandtech is good for general stuff and computer hardware. For phone based stuff specifically I use GSMarena, PhoneArena and Droidlife. I browse all of these periodically to keep up and find them pretty good. TomsHardware can be ok for basic news but I don't rely on them for reviews and such too heavily. High-Def Digest isn't a bad site either with regards to TVs and various related HD gear, Movies, and some Gaming related stuff.

Of them all I think Anandtech does the best job on the technical side of things. It may be above most reader's level of understanding but they really get in depth when they talk about hardware. It's pretty well rounded too with news and previews/reviews/commentary on Phones, Tablets, Computer hardware, OS updates (both mobile and desktop), even did a bit of in depth look at the PS4 and Xbox One hardware.
