what a load of crap. POL has nothing to do with endorsing religion. I guess our paper money endorces religion as well as putting our hand on a bible before testifying. I bet if we did that in court they'd throw us in the pokey

I still think that all these people who think this isn't about religion or a big deal would be up in arms if the PoA read this way.

I pledge of allegiance
to the flag
of the United States of America
and to the republic
for which it stands
one nation
under Buddah
indivisible
with liberty and justice for all

the use of the word god though has more of a plural meaning. It does not say under Jesus, or under Allah. When I said the POA I know Jesus or any other god never crossed my mind. I was just happy to solute the flag of my country.

When god is capitalized, like it is in the PoA, it refers to the Christian God; claims to the contrary only show blindness to the truth. You, I, and everyone else know they are, in fact, referring to the Christian God.

in short:

good, because it IS unconstitutional. i don't see how you can deny that.
if you think this is a waste of money and time, then GOOD. don't complain and try to get it reversed or else you'll end up wasting even more time and money. cut your losses.

No I'm talking about Religious Fanatics who have more in Common with Bin Laden than they do with Mainstream America.

Refresh my memory but doesn't it take 3/4 of the states to ratify a Constitutional amendment before it can be enacted.

Sorry, I was eating dinner...............found this though............

  • Lieberman: Amend Constitution to Save Pledge

Lawmakers of both parties are stampeding to condemn today's decision by two federal judges in San Francisco claiming the Pledge of Allegiance is somehow unconstitutional.

Among the most vehement on Capitol Hill: White House hopeful Sen. Joseph Lieberman, who immediately called for a constitutional amendment to keep "under God" in the pledge.

"There may have been a more senseless, ridiculous decision issued by a court at some time, but I don't remember it," the Connecticut Democrat fumed.

"Let us not wait for the Supreme Court to act on this," said Sen. John Warner, R-Va. "Why don't we go ahead and formulate this amendment, put it together, have it in place, presumably with all 100 United States senators?"

"What's next?" asked Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo. "Will our courts, in their zeal to abolish all religious faith from public arenas, outlaw 'God Bless America' too?

"The great strength of the United States is that we are and will continue to be, despite the liberal court's decision, one nation under God."

Senate President Pro Tem Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., called 9th Circuit Judge Alfred T. Goodwin an "atheist lawyer."

"I hope his name never comes before this body for any promotion, because he will be remembered," warned Byrd.

So, if you still want it.................September 22nd will be the date. By then, this will be nullified, or overuled, or overwritten by a constitutional ammendment...................

Just found another.............

  • Pledge Ruling Puts Heat on Daschle, Leahy

Though Senate Democrats are being as loud as anyone in condemning today's anti-pledge decision by the far-left 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the decision is a humiliating bombshell for them.

Appointees of Bill Clinton dominate the court, the most radical in the nation, and the ruling gives new fuel to Republicans urging Senate Democrats to stop blocking President Bush's judicial choices.

Fox News analyst Newt Gingrich said tonight that the man who wrote the opinion, "senior" Judge Alfred T. Goodwin, had to be "brought back from retirement to fill a vacancy," all because of Senate obstructionsim.

Even Senate plurality leader Tom Daschle, called the ruling "nuts."

As the Associated Press pointed out late today, Daschle, Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick "Leaky" Leahy and many other lead democrats are already in line to support an amendment which would in effect render this decision null and void.

ok. the bet is on. i bet $20 that this ruling will not be overthrow or supersceded(sp) prior to sept 23. and you bet $20 that it will be gone. sounds good to me.

Hey Red Dawn, last I checked, main stream america is opposed to removing "under god". Its you and people like that ARE THE minority, IE not MAINSTREAM.

Oh as for the USSC, we all know theres a couple up there that just sit there and do nothing for the majority of the cases. Justice Thomas being one of them. Well he could be doing stuff but he never says anything.

I find it disturbing that we can't get these morons to pass an amendment to the Constitution guaranteeing equal rights to all people regardless of gender, race, religion, social class, etc, yet they're rarin' to add one on just to make sure we can still say "under god" in the pledge of allegiance.
WTF?!
The pledge is about your country. If we believe that our nation is ultimately ruled by God, then we can go on believing this even if it's not said in the pledge. How many of you that aren't in grade school or the military even bother to say the pledge any more? Since you can't be bothered to say it, you really shouldn't be so bothered about 2 words in it....

Funny...I don't recall anybody being up in arms when Bush called for a National Day of Prayer to honor the 9/11 victims.

speech
quoting one paragraph...
Scripture says: "Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted." I call on every American family and the family of America to observe a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance, honoring the memory of the thousands of victims of these brutal attacks and comforting those who lost loved ones. We will persevere through this national tragedy and personal loss. In time, we will find healing and recovery; and, in the face of all this evil, we remain strong and united, "one Nation under God."

Cool! My PayPal is under the email in my profile..............I'll be waiting...........shouldn't take long by the sound of the news................ Funny thing is, I don't care that it is gone................I just don't think the majority of America or Congress (especially it being an election year) will let this stand for long.................

I would be burning at the stake if I would've proclaimed what the president could do with his prayer day 2 days after 9/11...

If it does stand through the remainder of this year, it will be a cake walk for Republicans to have the tri-fecta, the House, the Senate, and of course the President. Democrats are grasping at straws to fight off republicans this fall, and a far leftist retired judge just threw the democrats a hell of a problem for this fall. The reason they wont make other amendments is because 2/3s of Congress has to agree on it, and well as 37 states(?). They would easily have 3/4s of Congress and 40 states. It would be a cake walk to get an amendment like that passed. Other amendments would face major roadblocks in Congress and on the state level.

My guess is that the Supreme Court will uphold the ruling - but it will take years.

And the politicians are calling the court's ruling "ridiculous" because that is what they believe their supports want to hear.

I really doesn't matter.

I really could care less about the whole thing. I just find it rediculous that this is the kind of stuff they find important. If they really wanna make me happy, how about seperating my wallet from the school system. I have no kids yet I pay around $400 a year for the public school system

Doubtful, the Supreme Court already has precedent or two on the books, to where they could overturn it.
