I got shot down hard for posting Hard Drive Refurbs at Newegg. It'll be interesting to see what they say about this. Seems like a good deaL, but I still think I'd get the Lite-On for $40 less as it's been getting about the same reviews as Plextor. Can't argue with the name though. thanks
BTW, volfan, the reason people didn't like refurbished HDDs is because if your hard drive breaks, your screwed. If your cd burner breaks, you not quite screwed, your computer still works...
After reading the reviews, I for one will purchase the lite-on 24x (If I can unload my Iomega 12x that is), but most people only look for the name, and Plextor is a very popular name.
I don't believe you can make backups of your copy protected games with the Plextor, you can however with the LiteOn, I got the 16X version and love it.

Plextor drives are among the most compatible with Clone CD. They have a great reputation. However lite-on drives are really earning a name for themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if they started to raise their prices now that they've penetrated the market.
