Hi, I have a Plextor 121032A writer that is with a sony dvd drive in a same secondary IDE channel, I have this problem with nero is occasionally when i burn CDs, a SCSI/IDE error appear from the nero dialog and the application hangs there, burn-proof is activited and my firmware is 1.07. What could be the cause of this? Is is because of the media or due to any other reasons like Power supply? I'm running my cd-writer at default pio mode 4. Can anybody help?

sounds like you're exhausting your buffer & the burnproof steps in to prevent a coster.
you would see this less often if the two drives were on different IDE channels!

Well you give little information to help figure out what your problem is. But I'll cover the basics. I own a plextor and have a creative labs 2x dvd drive on the same channel and no problems at all.

1) Since they are on the same channel MAKE SURE that the plextor is the MASTER and the sony is the slave.
2) Since both drives are on the same channel NEVER burn on the fly from one cd to another even with burn proof its not a smart idea to do that type of burn.
3) It could be that when nero POLLS the drives the sony doesn't support some odd function and causes the error but I have no way of knowing for sure.

hope that helps

I'm backing up data from my hard drive which is on a Primary IDE channel as a slave. Could it be the media? I'm using relatively OEM 12x compatible media though. Any clues?

Your harddrive is on primary slave? Or do you have a second hd (on primary slave) you are using to backup your data?

Tdk and Imation are the best cd-r's I have used. Some memorex media dosent like burning above 6x:| when I record above 6x the cd wont play on my portable cd player if I have anti-shock enabled.

STAY AWAY FROM MEMOREX!!! I've had nothing but problems on both my DVD (hitachi) and CDRW (Creative). I've heard other people say they've had problems with memorex. Ever wonder why it's so cheap and on sale all the time? Must be a cheap product. You get what you pay for.

I assume that drive is a second drive, yes?
check in device manager under disk drives/your hdd/properties/setting, to see if DMA is enabled for the drive. enable it if it's not, as well as your master hdd, burner & dvd drive.

I use nothing BUT memorex. I have never had a problem and NEVER burned a coaster. Music is crisp and clear. So I don't think you should generalize like that.

Ditto ShaggyDog's response. I use Memorex CDR's and burn music and data CD's all the time. No problems at all. The only thing that I try and do is stick with CDR's that have the silver or gold bottom. I've read that those "colored cd's" (red, blue, green) are hard to read for some drives.

Hmmm....I have a Pioneer 16XDVD drive as my master, and my 12/10/32A plextors as the slave on the same channel. I've had NO problems with this, and i've done CD 2 CD.
