Mine shows as being shipped yesterday. I am going for the $50 rebate assuming the UPC code is correct. If they were somehow able to change the UPC codes I will go for the other rebate as it is still a good deal.. just not a great deal.

OK, this is some BS. It came today and they changed the invoice date to 9/30 so that it will not match to the $50 rebate. The UPC code matches of course.

I think Dell just lost a customer. Order date and invoice date are always the same. What is the point of purchasing for a rebate if they can play with the invoice date?

I'm gonna call them and b!tch them out. I will try and get them to fix the invoice date but if they don't I will keep it anyway, take the $30 rebate and recommend to every one who ever asks me about Dell to never buy from them again. I advise a lot of people too and will put it on my forum as well. Talk about some shady business practices. :|

I lost out on a plextor rebate via a dell purchase in the past. The price I paid was too low to qualify for the rebate. I would not take a chance on this one.

The $50 rebate says:
"1. Purchase a PX-712A between 9/23/2004 and 9/29/2004."

I think they always invoice on the date that it is shipped if they do not charge your card until it ships. Dell posted an authorization on my credit card account when I ordered but did not charge until after it shipped. Thus, I believe the invoice date of 10/1.

As far as I know, rebates go by order date. Obviously, I purchased mine on 9/29/2004, how do I control when Dell invoices it? It won't get invoiced until it is sent. The rebate appears to be from Plextor, not Dell, and if true, I don't see what Dell would gain by changing the invoice date.

Has anyone had any experience with a rebate being refused when the order date was prior to the purchase date on the rebate, but it was invoiced after the valid date passed?

amdskip, what was the reason offered to you for not having qualified for your Dell/Plextor rebate? Was it that the invoice date was after the rebate purchase date?

OK, I have studied the rebate and it says purchased between "9/23/04 through 9/29/04". Since the rebate form makes no reference of invoice date and I do have a copy of my invoice clearly showing the order date as 9/29/04 I believe it falls within the requirements needed for the $50 rebate. So I am going for the $50 rebate.

I called Dell and talked to some clerk who clearly could care less and told me I was unreasonable. Unreasonable for asking questions? As my GF would say "super whatever", lol.

I still won't deal with this corporation if only because they hire nasty people. :laugh:

BTW, anybody wanting to see their invoice will have to get it online as all that comes with the burner is a packing slip with the invoice date and it does not reference your order date.

I kept checking the tracking number with DHL but nothing.
Turns out it wasn't picked up by DHL until 10/6...

I guess the question is does "purchase by" mean "order date" or "invoice or ship date"? I think if they want to deny the rebate, they will pick the later, even though it is beyond the customer's control.

This deal aint no hot deal no more...

Yep, even at $60.38 A/R this is still a nice deal. This burner is a dream... burned a couple of DVD-R's last night at full 8x speed and the media was 4x media. Very cool.

lucky you, like i said, mine is still backordered, and i ordered the same day. maybe ill see it sometime this month.

I've always had "purchase date" being the one used in rebates. An example is the Dell $200 rebate on the 200Gb HD. To me all indications are that the $50 rebate should work, so I'm going for it rather than shorting myself $20 by going just for the $30 rebate. I'll actually send in the latter as well with UPC copy & accompanying letter.

I can confirm that this drive rules. I've got an education in burn reliability by using the included PlexTools professional software, which is also described in this detailed review:

After having burned over 600 DVDs at about 20 mins/DVD on my Sony DRU-500AX, it was sublime to burn one in about 5 mins for the first time. Using PlexTools, I was able to verify that the burn quality on my TY +R media was top notch (low PI/PO errors). Plextor firmware adjusts the laser strength depending on the media for an optimum burn. The manual is nice & thick as well.

So, what are people that got the packing slip showing a date after Sep 29 going to do? Will you "risk" sending the $50 MIR and just attach a print-out of the electronic invoice from your Dell account, showing the order date before Sep 29? (BTW even that electronic invoice specifies that the invoice date is after Sep 29).

Even though I ordered 9/29, my invoice says 10/4. Seems like a slam dunk to deny the rebate.

I have read elsewhere that this is a standard Dell trick for denying rebates.

Perhaps I'll call Dell...

Once you log in to the "My Account" section on Dell's web-site, there is a "Order Status" link and a "Order History" link. If you click on the Status link your list of orders will come up. If you then click on the order number, you will see a receipt page that shows when you ordered the drive, along with your shipping & billing addresses, order # & customer #. If you are worried about the invoice date, send in a print out of this page. I'm sending in this page, and also likely the invoice with the order date circled.

In the past I've sent in & received rebates when the ship (& invoice date) has passed the rebate period because the order date was within the rebate period. I could be wrong but I see no reason to worry because of the invoice date. As I said earlier, your order gets billed & invoiced when its shipped. Rebates work off the date that you ordered, not the date that the item became available to send to you.

I am sending mind back. I order a silver color drive and they shipped me a beige or white one. Also rebate date messed up in invoice. I don't want to loose $50 for this.

For all of you having trouble with a Packing Slip dated after 9/29:

Go online and print out a copy of the online invoice. For some reason, mine was not available, and it prompted me to fill out an online form to request the invoice. It was e-mailed to me the next day.

The e-mailed invoice has the date I ordered it: 9/28.
