Option 1:Basically PM the retail drive at newegg.com with Staples Item #IM1289314

Option 2: Updated 3/11: Newegg.com may or may not have these in stock since their stock has been inconsistent of late. So go to z-buy.com and pricematch the Plextor 16x10x40x retail drive to Staples Item# IM1289314.[/b]

Option 3: Updated 3/21: I found the drive for a bit cheaper here. PM that with a $40 Coupon and you're talking $180 shipped + tax.

I put the order through today after 4 csr's rejected me. Each with their own unique and very moronic excuses. Anyway, the last one was very helpful and put it through very nicely.

Option 1
$300+ = Staples price
$210 = Newegg.com Pricematch
- 40 = Coupon (The $40 Coupon would be better if you can find it)

*Beware, CSR's will come up with really lame and moronic excuses. Make sure they get the manufacturer's number from Ingram Micro so that they can verify it as the same product. The third CSR had the nerve to tell me the Manuf. #'s didn't match up even though Plextor only makes one 16x/10x/40x CDRW. She probably got tired of waiting on hold with them or something like that.

Update 2/29: I got the drive in two days by UPS. It works ggreat! Hope more of you can take advantage of the deal.

That's the distributor for many of these online retail shops. Basically they supply staples, staples adds on a billion dollars and tries to sell it to you. hehehe. Staples Is suck!

Basically just give that kindergarten they got running down there at staples a call and pray you get a knowledgeable CSR. Ask them if the item is in stock. Give them the item #. They'll check and tell you what it is and what the ridiculous price they sell it for is. Tell 'em you want to price match that with a website. Some of 'em need newegg.com spelled out, some don't. Tell them to search for "plextor 16x" and the drive should come up. They will put you on hold for 10-20 mins depending on if Ingram Micro will pick up or not so that they can verify the manuf.# with them. If they let you pass go, then give them the coupon number and voila. You've turned a ridiculously high priced item into a bargain.

This one may be hard to do. Newegg isn't one of the stores that Staples normally would pricematch. You'd have to get a "liberal" CSR at staples to do this pricematch.

Just so you know, my friend bought a Handspring Prism today and tried to use the same $40 off $200 Staples Coupon thats on the fightdivx.com site, and the CSR he spoke to told him that it was only valid for "Dividend customers" and that he could not use it. Your mileage may vary of course, but the CSR he spoke with was pretty flexible, and offered to let him use a $20 New Customer coupon (which we quickly replaced with a $30 off $150 New Customer coupon) ... Anyways, just thought I'd let you know.

Just called and ordered it. The csr was really professional and tried not to find it,
but I asked them to look some more please. They found it as a special order for the price $347 USD. I then asked why it was so expensive. They then offered info about their pricematching program. I asked him to wait while I loaded up a website to compare prices. I used pricewatch. There were other vendors selling retail boxed 16/10/40 drives for $230 and two of them had free shipping similar to Staples. They put me on hold b/c they had been hearing a lot about newegg.com so I gave him the name of another site and then looked it up. The csr came back and said something about needing to call them to verify. They didn't. They pricematched and taxed so $246.50 and then Iadded a coupon for $30 off of $150 to bring the total to $216.50. I need a new keyboard now.

I'm glad you guys were able to get in on the deal too. You won't believe the kind of idiotic excuses some of those CSR's gave me. One of 'em couldn't even find the website. I had to spell it out to him three times. Staples should really re-evaluate their hiring practices.

the 16x10x40 is not listed on their site, but if u call and give them the Item number IM1289314 they can pull it up.

i just got in on this, so it can be done. $205 inc tax and shipping. the guy actualy PM'd the $220 price for the oem drive at newegg but i guess i used the $40 off cupon already so i had to use a $30 off coupon oh well..still a killer deal!
