I can't speak to the newer models, but the quality of the Plextor SCSI drives is unsurpassed. I have two of the 8X20 (CDR, no CDRW) and both of them just won't die or make a bad burn no matter what I throw at them. I also had a 4X Plextor, and two 4X Plextor CD readers with the caddies. They were fantastic as well - I never saw any of them die (ended up selling them).
