plextor owners. Need some help.

I recently purchased Audiocatalyst 2.10, and I
am having trouble with ASPI layer. Is there some
way to fix this ??
My set-up:
PX-40ts firmware 1.11 aspi v. 1.0
PX-w8220t firmware 1.04 aspi v. 1.0
Tekram 390 scsi-amd chipset.
Plex Mgr. 2000 ver. 1.05 will not accept adaptec
I was also intending to purchase Nero(to burn Mp3 files directly to cdr for 10 hours or so of listening).
Until I get this aspi thing sorted out I think I should wait on Nero.
Any ideas would be helplful.

Check the adaptec site they have utility to update and check your aspi layer.

But I am having the same problem after updating from adaptec.
I guess the next step is to contact software vendor. If you have anymore ideas let me know. I really would like to get audiocatalyst
running on my system.

What operating system are you running? Make sure you update your system with the correct ASPI layer from Adaptec. Tekram MAY also have a special ASPI layer for your system, check with their website.

Can you tell us what type of error Audiocatalyst is giving you? Also, like Midnight Rambler asked, what problem are you having with Plextor Manager 2000?

Sorry about the misinformation Lore.
According to Tekram website the 390 controller card will not accept
the Adaptec aspi versions. There is nothing wrong with the Plex software.Sorry about the confusion in my original post.
As a matter of fact I just discovered Audio FS(this is a dynamite piece of software).
Using Audio FS and the encoding portion of Audiocatalyst 2.10 I am on
my way to backing up cd's(this is a very quick method to make mp3's)
However I am still not getting Audiocatalyst to work the way it should by itself.
The first error message I get is &quot;scsi1hlp.vxd&quot;
I'm running win98 original and I think all is in order.
When I go to grab the songs then I get this message
&quot; aspi didn't answer&quot; this is the part I don't know how to
fix. Since my original post, I have loaded aspick from Adaptec and now have version 4.60 of aspi layers installed(both the 40plex and the 8220 cd-rw are working ok except with Audiocatalyst). This does
confuse me. I don't understand the &quot;aspi doesn't answer&quot; message. I think I'm missing something simple. I am very new at all of this.
If something comes to mind let me know(e-mail is in my profile).
If all else fails I'm thinking of getting an Adaptec scsi card to solve the problem.

Stick with your Tekram. I have the 390U2W and Audio Catalyst 2.1 works just fine. I also have the 8/20 Plextor (almost the same as your drive) and mine is working just fine. If I remember corectly, I had problems ASPI layer as well. Unfortunatly I don't remember how i fixed it. I'll try to jog my memory, but a clean install of Win 98 would be the safest bet. But that is time consuming. The only reson i sugest this is all the ASPI updating that you have done. Sorry I could not be of more help.

Thanx for the response Fragmeister.
Spent all day yesterday fooling around with this. After I was done
my daughter said she couldn't burn a cd(oooppps). I'll take your advice and stick with the Tekram though. If a clean install is what you suggest then so be it.

have you tried exracting the w98 default aspi layer using sfc?
start run sfc
extract the 3 main aspi files I cant remeber what they are but I think they are aspi.dll(not sure of the extension it could be sys or other) wnaspi32.dll and the other I cant remember at all,been to long
also try the nero site for their aspi files,I have found that to fix some problems before as well

What is sfc? If you mean original cab files from Windows98,I did that
also. The files were: wnaspi32.dll--winaspi.dll--apix.vxd and aspi2hlp.sys. Checked after restore and all were correct. Everything
worked OK but still the &quot;aspi error&quot; when trying to use Audiocatalyst.
I think Fragmeister might be right about re-install. This system is
getting a little unstable. Will check the Nero site and see what they
have before any attempt at re-install(I have no idea where to start that)

Its working. Best I can figure after all the fooling around was the last thing I did. Installed scsi driver from Tekram floppy instead
of using generic Windoz98.
Audiocatalyst is a really fast program,and UltraPlex40 rips awful quick. So far I have done three different cd's and never took more
than 12 minutes to get a whole album done.
