This is smoking hot for this burner. Go to Dell Home Accessories and add the drive to your cart, apply the coupon codes for 10% off and $20 off $100 (found easily at techb@rg@ins.com), you'll automatically get free ground shipping, and it should show a final price of $98.76 if you live in a state where Dell doesn't charge tax. Finish up your purchase at Dell, then head here for the rebate form from Plextor's site. The model number at the Dell site, Manufacturer Part# PX-W1210TA/SW, matches exactly with the requirement on the rebate form. Final price for this drive is $68.76 and that my friends is simply a steal. Enjoy!

Edit: See the posts below where someone has had problems with the rebate from Plextor due to the lower retail cost of this drive. I'm still going to mail in the rebate when I receive it. Hopefully things will work out. Thanks for letting us know about the rebate woes!

Very nice deal, I have on of these and it's simply one of the best purchases I've made... excellent burner and this is a killer price.

From Plextor's website, here is everything included with this retail version:

Internal CD-RW drive, Software CD (containing Plextor Manager 2000, Adaptec Easy CD Creator, Adaptec Direct CD), drive and software, manuals, 1 pc. CD-R media, 1 pc. CD-RW media, mounting screws.

I just ordered one for a system build and the guy freaked out when I told him what I was going to charge for the upgrade. It's all about spreading the joy

Imo this is a good deal if your are married to plextors but I'd recommend the 24x liteons for $80-100 deals. I've burned alot on mine and have had only 1 coaster. 12x is nice if you don't have one now but there's nothing like a reliable 24x though.

I second the LiteOn 24x for a few bucks more. Plextors are nice, but I have no desire to upgrade to a 12x burner from my 8x burner. Isn't the LiteOn a rebadged Plextor anyway? I could be wrong.

Thanks for the deal! I just scored one for my son for Christmas.
I decided to give up a few X's for the Plextor brand name.

BTW: LiteOn makes their own drives according to a review sight I saw.

I recommend the Liteon whole-heartedly over the Plextor. I've used Plextor's SCSI drives with no problem but as soon as I tried their IDE burners, three of them broke on me immediately. Had to rma over and over. Paid way too much for a shoddy product in my opinion. My Liteon is as sturdy as the older Plextor SCSI drives I loved so much and is probably sturdier than Plextor's crappy IDE drives. Liteon rules. Great performance at a great price.

The LiteOn drives are great for the price, but Plextor's are just rock-solid. I paid $180 for this drive during the first part of the year and it has never popped out a coaster. I'd love to have a 24X, but saving the extra couple of minutes just isn't worth it - yet

The Plextors are good burners, I have the older SCSI ones, but the only burner that will do SD2 is the new 24X . The next drive I buy I think is going to be a LiteOn for the money.

After looking at the Clone CD compatibility chart, this drive is poor at reading subchannel data. This is not a very good drive if that's your thing.

The LiteOn 24x OTOH, is excellent. I do think that Plextor makes a solid drive, but I'm not willing to pay the price for the name.

Edit I just noticed that my link doesn't take you right to the drive compatibility site. Click on Supported Drivers to your left to check it out.

i just got the plex 241040 from buy.com for 117. definitely worth it. i wouldnt buy anything else. i hear the liteon is great too, but plextor is just without a doubt the king and ill wait for liteon to receive the same recognition for me to consider it. not only do i need the long term reliability, but the burn quality especially with these cheesy blanks i buy. burnproof really isnt an issue as i never get underruns anyways..

plextor 8432 = 1000+ flawless burns and counting..

Be careful on Plextor rebates. I filed for one a short time ago and got a postcard from them yesterday saying that my rebate was "declined for the following reason(s):
*Purchase price must be at least $155 to qualify"
I checked the rebate form and it didn't say anything about a minimum purchase price in the Terms and Conditions.
How many others out there have gotten this reply?

Do you know of any coupons/rebates for the LG? Also, what does LG stand for? Did you mean LO (LiteOn)? Thanks....

RE:"Also, what does LG stand for?"

LG stands for LUCKY GOLDSTAR.
Taiwan company that makes GOLDSTAR Televisions. Maybe they teamed up with LUCKY.
I believe LG makes monitors as well, probably a lot of other electronis. As far as I hear, LG makes a decent CDRW.

I've bought a dozen of these things - love em. And I USED to be a Plextor only person.

i dont think the rebate will go through they will say some bs about the Least Price.
Just cause we got a deal and its not a Refurb doesnt me they shouldnt honor the rebate.

the cheaper you get the plextor stuff the more chance of your rebate will get rejected.
lol

and i am not kidding.

Thanks for the warning on the rebate. I am cancelling my order and going for the 16x10x40 sony that has a $30 rebate listed at dell. Ends up being a little cheaper then the plextor and gained a little speed to boot. Remembered to go through ebates this time to
