You can just buy the internal model with a 5.25 enclosure to achieve externalness (I just made that word up).

LiteOn btw sends their parts out to stay at home moms and such where it is assembled, like how you get paid for stuffing envelopes your spare time.

their price seems some what reasonable as well for a new writing speed that's coming out

Adwantage of this drive is that it writes CD-Rs at 40X while others can do only 16X (some 24X).

Will be on the lookout for one when the price comes down a bit.

I don't think the 2mb buffer would pose a problem @ this point in time, sence the 8x speed dose not write fast enough for there to be consern for underruns,I thought 48x 52x cdr speeds needed larger buffers to sustain the data flow for helping prevent the buffer underruns .When cdrs first came out 4x 6x 8x 16x ect they didn't have large buffers @ that point...........So I'm thinking there is no need yet for anything biger right? I would also think Plextor would know..........

Anyone know how fast 8x dvd write speed is in CD-R speed terms?
something like 70x I believe. CD is 150 kbs and DVD is like 1300 kbs (that may be wrong a bit).

So what are the limitations in terms of bus speed and drive access times for DVD burners? At what point do we reach the point where further increases are not feasible with current PCs?

Which is 4 minutes for 4.7gb, I'd take that! Also what is the limiting factor there? IDE transfer rates, or PCI bus limitations?
