None of those places have it. I can't find anyone that sells it yet. Strange that Plextor doesn't even have it, maybe it's not out yet?
As far as I'm concerned.....I had thought about the 716A (IDE) until I saw that shockingly it has some problems and people are returning them. So, I'm hoping the 716SA is better. Also, for those of us with our IDE connectors used, SATA is the only option if you don't want to slave a device unless you want to pay for a converter.Originally posted by: ZUnit
Oh you speak of SATA one why the heck you need SATA interface for DVD burner?
I just don't like slaving......"leeching" one drive off another since that can hurt performance. I've always run each HD and each optical as a stand alone master since I've always used mobo's that had the connectors.Originally posted by: ZUnit
Well if you have spare 30 $ then go for sata but if i was you i just wait for some reviews to apear on the net.
By ide controller you mean PCI one? Also whats problem drive working as slave?
Ah yes, "unobtainium". Plextor said this drive is supported on my mobo, but they didn't have an "X" next to SP2, only SP1, so that concerns me. I don't know if it just plain won't work on SP2, or they just didn't test it on SP2.Originally posted by: Zepper
. The PATA version had problems with some early batches (I think they recalled them as the first firmware update didn't do much to solve the problem either) and the SATA version isn't out yet (at least in the States). So right now the 716 is made of unobtainium...
. I hope you are aware that the SATA optical drives only work with a few chipsets. Mostly Intel or SiliconImage. There is a list on the Plextor web site.

I wonder why it's listed at Froogle and not at Google? At least I couldn't find anyone selling it at Google.Originally posted by: Hikari
Is it native SATA? The 712SA had an adapter inside that converted from PATA to SATA. Just wondering...
Prices are still a bit high though: http://froogle.google.com/froo...+Froogle&scoring=p
Since it retails for $160, ~$132 isn't too bad. Of course they don't say how much their shipping is at "Onsale.com" and "MacMall".Originally posted by: Hikari

I bought a PX-712 that's serial ata, and I've come across some issues that I just don't how how to resolve. Whenever I try burning a DVD, or CD for that matter, my computer lags like NO OTHER.. I'm not sure why, I've updated the firmware and drivers, and it's on my Asus A8V Deluxe's regular SATA link. Anybody have any information on what could be going on here?
Also, I'm new to SATA, and this is probably a motherboard issue, but, I can't seem to get bootable-CDs to boot with this SATA optical. The BIOS doesn't give me an option to set SATA or SCSI devices in the boot order, so I really don't know what to do, any ideas on this perhaps?
