The continuation of a global war. We remain sitting ducks awaiting our plunder with most people in our countries striving for a rerun of "Peace for our time".

One day it may cost us dearly enough that we are willing to return fire where it duly belongs.

For some reason...This:

with the aim to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board the aircraft in hand luggage.

Combined with this:

He added that passengers were advised that no electrical or battery powered items including laptops, mobile phones, iPods, and remote controls could be carried in the cabin and must be checked in as hold baggage.

Had me picturing peoples ipods exploding...

Anyway, good thing they (hopefully) stopped this in time.

Trust me, that day has long to come. We're letting Afghanistan and Iraq slip out of our hands, so our military would be ineffective against any other regime.

And there are certain regimes that get free passes. Lest you think the American consumer will stand for $10/gallon gas.

Chances are highest that these terrorists spent more time in Europe than anywhere else. Are we going to start bombing Europe now?

Nothing to do with any country or war. Those men are British citizens, according to what I've read. It's a matter of religion and nothing else.

On BBC, they say that the arrested were born and bred in UK, i.e. British citizens. A representative from Scotland Yard has given an interesting statement just now.

Yeah. This pisses me off. If you hate this country so much you wish to blow up your fellow citizens you should just fvck off to wherever makes you happy. You gladly took a free education, free healthcare, other social services and prospered in a country without oppression, that allows freedoms that you now abuse.

I don't give a fvck what religion they do it in the name of, it's not about religion, it's about lost, murderous fools who use religion as a veil to commit acts that empower them. Get a spine and do something PROACTIVE to promote whatever cause you have. Blowing sh1t up just galvanizes opinion and creates yet more division in communities and in race relations.

Fvck it, we only in recent times left the dark shadow of the IRA. Peace really is an infrequent guest at our table.

I'm truly happy this was stopped. It's just so unfortunate that there seems to be no solution/end to the amount of times these people are willing to try.

UK seems to be getting better at this.
If you compare the MI5 website Text with our Homeland Security website Text
MI5 looks much more lean and mean and focused on terrorism , where Homeland Security seems like a multi headed lumbering behemoth.
I reminds me of the saying Jack of all trades and master of none.
Too big, too multi faceted, and too inefficent.

ah heck... I was going to fly to Dublin today. Does anyone know where I can find information which airports have cancelled flights and so on, or do I *have* to ring Ryanair? I can't seem to get through

Try looking at BBC's news site for info on which airports have been closed in UK. Heathrow is closed, btw.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least. From what I've heard, some of the Pakistani British kids in UK feel so disillusioned that they've turned into criminals and now potential terrorists--especially after being brainwashed by some extremist mullahs that are given free reign in England. Pakistan itself is even a source of terror sponsorship, they helped nurture Taliban (with Saudi funds) and kept Afghanistan under their thumb of terror for quite a long time. They've also been doing the same thing to India via proxy. Musharaff isn't any different, he's using the West to continue to build his arsenal and nobody is doing anything about it all the while he pays lip service to the US by nabbing a few dumb ass villagers in western pakistan--not the real terrorists because all of them are in the Pakistani ISI/military. Want to get rid of terrorism tomorrow? Ok then here's what you have to do:

1. Overthrow the Saudi leadership and give them real democracy and get rid of their Wahabbi 14th century Arab culture of death and terror that they export (their second largest commodity after oil).
2. Threaten Pakistan with military action unless they finally take care of their ISI proxy terrorism and then have Musharaff step down and let democracy take root again. Solve the Kashmir issue once and for all.
3. Move in with NATO/Lebanese troops and clean out Hezbollah by searching each and every home--not bombing civilians from the sky like Israel does.
4. Get serious about a Palestinian state and create one but make sure there's enough buffer room so that they can't sneak into Israel and blow themselves up (you never know about Pals).
5. Secure our borders once and for all and don't penalize border agents for doing their jobs.

You can't blame all Pakistanis for it, there's millions of them in the UK. There were bound to be some radical ones indoctrinated by the ass backward mullahs there that openly preach terrorism. The solution of course is to quickly deport all of these mullahs or even stick them in a prison and throw away the key.

Waits for the liberals to jump in and claim it's time to keep people scared in time for November elections.

Unfortunately in this day and age it's more true then ever. Really the onus is on the Pakistani UK community to come crashing down on the mullahs that preach hate in their mosques and let the MI5 take care of them. If they don't make a concerted effort to root out these type of people, they're going to end up suffering the brunt of the general publics backlash for those few bad apples.

Obligatory liberal remark.......

This is to scare people before November!

But seriously does anybody think that Al Qaeda or whomever was behind this latest thing doesnt think of these things??

I might sound like a hack but hear me out...

If I were an Al Qaeda leader and I knew that in America that it was mostly the conservative politicians that bang the drums of war and such, and that by trying to attack the US/UK will further empower said politicians and get them reelected to continue banging the drums of war which in turn gives Al Qaeda the opportunity to recruit more, which creates more terror, etc etc...

Or perhaps I'm crazy. But seriously these terrorist leaders are not idiots. So I wouldn't hold it past them. Look at what happened in Spain.
