Meh. I have no problem with this model, she's beautiful, and that's cool that she's being published. But is anyone else getting tired of all this "yeah! stick it to those evil magazines for publishing pictures of hot, thin girls all the time, those bastards!" stuff that always permeates these stories? Women whine so fucking much about the fact that the media portrays "unrealistic" images of beauty. Well, no duh. Male models are impossibly good looking too, and they're airbrushed to death as well. Somehow, guys seem to realize this and not starve ourselves over it. Sheesh.

It's also funny to me that all these magazines that have airbrushed beauties are largely owned and run by women, as well as purchased almost exclusively by women.

Not trying to start a misogynistic thread or anything. I just don't get this aspect of women.

I erased my initial response and decided to just post this. I am an average looking girl, as several people here will attest.

Once upon a time I posted my picture here and another member took it upon himself to start a thread about it. The thread quickly topped 100 posts, and most were about how ugly and un-doable I was.

Hundreds of average looking guys have posted their pictures here without comment from either male or female members.

Women and men are not judged equally on their appearances. It's silly to compare, or to expect them to react in the same way.

That's probably fair. However, I wouldn't use ATOT losers to gauge how normal guys react to normal girls. These dumbasses call Jessica Alba fugly, so you you know they're not living in reality.

But as for men and women not being judged equally, that's probably true. But how much of that do you feel is perpetuated by men, versus women themselves? I can't tell you how many times I've had the conversation with a female about make-up, fashionable clothes, trying super hard to be thin, etc. When I (and other males in the conversation) explain how we don't understand this, because an attractive girl is attractive whether or not she applies eye-shadow, etc, the response we invariably get is "well, it's as much to compete with other girls as it is to impress guys." And again, who's buying these fashion mags? Who's publishing them? Who's posing for them?

Undoubtedly, there are douchebag guys out there (some in this thread) who judge a woman solely on how thin and pretty she is. And, undoubtedly there are some girls (I've met some of them) who have no interest in a guy if he doesn't look like Brad Pitt, Ewan McGregor, Matthew McCounaughey, Johnny Depp, etc. I think it's awful that people like that exist, but I'm unconvinced that it's just us awful men who are creating insecurities in women around this country. Agreed, or no? I'm curious for your perspective, perhaps I'm misguided here.

And as others have said, more than anything, she's just in a terribly unflattering pose. It reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where they talk about things that shouldn't be done naked. Well, certain poses look like crap regardless of condition.

It's not a man's perception that's fucking up women's sizes. Women are so obsessively, immaturely competitive among each other, it's THE WOMEN who are fucking up their own sizes so they can feel better about themselves.

Do you really think men care about whether the woman has some chub or not? 99.999% of us don't. We think you're all  with the exception of a few already-self-hating-and-projecting douche bags that think women who don't have ribs sticking out are fat.

I love how fat women will latch on to this and say "See! We are beautiful!", when that girl is in the top .5% of size 12 women.

The last thing this country needs is attempted fat acceptance. This woman is far from fat, but she is being portrayed as some sort of whale.

This.

In all fairness to the pics, its hard to see exactly how wide her hips and thick her thighs are. Based on the reasonable body weight in the torso, the hips and thighs are probably thicker than it looks at first glance.

This came up while I was trying to find other pictures of her to get a better idea; and honestly, I think this is a more flattering angle - so much so that while she still has more meat on her than the typical "model" I'd say she's pretty damned good looking. Of course, I'd never say she's indicative of what most people would call "plus sized" these days.

Yea, but you can't base things off the limited sample size from your porn surfing at work.

Hmm. I wouldn't call Jessica Alba fugly, but she's 150% not my style/type. I'd take Holly Hunter over her, and she's 50-something now For me it's more personality / attitude.

That said I think most people gravitate towards looks more than they'd like to. Guess it's just human nature to some degree.

I don't really care what women (and mostly I don't care about what anybody) thinks of me, but the self-consciousness I have is more related to guys than gals. I don't wear makeup or spend a lot of money on clothes - Goodwill is my most frequent shopping spot. I don't buy fashion mags and I'm not an attention whore.

If somebody as level-headed and removed from the fashion/media world as me can feel self-conscious at 5'5 and 125 lbs, then any girl will feel self-conscious some of the time.

(Note that just because I feel self-conscious about my looks doesn't mean that it affects me enough to do anything about it. I'm healthy, that's enough.)

Generalization: Girls look at an unattractive girl and think, "no competition, poor girl, good for me." Guys look at an unattractive girl and think, "ewwwww, never doing that!" Nobody wants their appearance to produce revulsion, but apparently it's an easy reaction to provoke in a guy.

Seconded. Though I've normaled out, I was a pretty geeky/goofy looking teenager, and I assure you that those were not fun times for me. And being my normal self now, again it's not like women are indifferent to my flaws.

anyways picking on thin girls is always an easy dodge from the reality that most folks are obese these days. just the fatty girls making themselves feel better...
