Plz Help Me find a replacement for my mobo

Hi

My MSI ktPro MOBO just died on me.so i gotta buy a new one. I don't need DDR ram right now, but might upgrade later on. I dont' wanna spend 300 bucks on a MOBO though. Any suggestions? I have a 1ghz Athlon T. Bird and would need ATA 66 support.

If you want a SD Ram board that you can upgrade later to DDR, i'd suggest the ECS K7S5A. It is a very fast board for the price. You may have a couple of troubles when installing it, such as no video, where you will need to reseat the AGP card a couple of times (this is a common thing with these boards), but when it is up and running it is very fast.

It doesn't have any overclocking options from stock, but you can get an overclocking BIOS if that is what you want, which will give you some more FSB options.

It has ATA100, so more than ATA66, onboard sound (which can be disabled if you already have another sound card) and also on some models it also has onboard LAN (mine doesn't, but i got it in the UK, most US ones do).

For the price, you can't really beat the K7S5A. It is still one of the best selling boards, and it's performance is somewhere between i believe the KT266 and the KT266A

If you get the k7s5a, be sure you have an amd approved power supply, or you may have problems. Check their website. I suggest a codegen 350 watt as the least expensive amd approved ps, or sparkle, antec or enermax. I found the codegen at 800pc.com for about $30 shipped. Otherwise, you may have problems with this board.

Thanks, i already have an amd aproved ps. it's just that my mobo broke.

I've been thinking about the ddr ram and i just wanna stick with sdram for a while. so, i dont' really need ddr support. No need for built in video/sound/lan either.

Any suggestions on what board to get?

Check newegg's refurbished section. They have the kr7a-133 for $99 shipped. I've had good luck with their refurbs.

The same thing just happened to me too!!! I have the msi pro 2a and now I'm looking for a replacement. I also have a 1G Thunderbird. I was just going to find something and stick with my pc133 memory, but with the 2100 ddr soooo cheep, $32 for a 256 stick through crucial - I'm rethinking this. I want something that's not going to crap out on me like the msi did.
