Plz HELP!! Windows not installing!!!!!!

I just built a new computer and when I booted it up for the first time it stated that it failed to detect my floppy. So I decided to go ahead and install windows nonetheless and everything was working fine until it came time to format my hardrives. When windows began to format my hardrives, it asked me insert the windows 98 boot disk or cd into the "D" drive(or cd-rom drive). The weird thing is that the disk was already in there and it detected the disk when I booted up, but seemed to forget that it was in there when it came time to format my harddrives.
Any help would be deeply appreciated, as I am very desperate to get my home-built computer working.

Urm - you trying to install W98 on a non-formatted HDD system? W98 can't do partitioning/formatting.

You might want to get a DOS-disk or - failing that - abort the W98 install & use the CD to FDISK your HDD's. You should be able to find FDISK and FORMAT on the CD.

Better still (and easier) - use another working system (0r a boot-disk) to partition & format the HDD's.

Additionally, check the ribbon-cable attached to your floppy. Quite often, pin #1 on the floppy is on the opposite side of where the hard drive pin #1 is (I'm talking about the pin where the red stripe of the cable is oriented to). Also check the motherboard documentation for the location of Pin #1 of the Floppy connector. Make sure the red striped side of the cable is attached there. I would check the bios, too, to make sure all potential settings for the floppy drive are enabled.

As Slikkster said, I would double check my connections for the floppy. If the hard drive you are trying to install Windows on isn't partitioned you are going to have to get your floppy going to run fdisk (or a third party disk util) or you are going to have to find some other way to partition your hard drive. To my knowledge, there is no way to partition a drive from the Win98 installation CD.

Thanx You Guys, you really helped me and if I could ever do anything to repay you, I would. I fixed the windows install by formatting and partitioning the hardrives with some of my bro's software, and now window install is still underway
I still havent gotten floppy to work, even after goin through bios, it's still giving me problems so I guess I'm just gonna keep tinkering with it... Thanx again, you have really shown me what a great community this is and I am so happy that I can rely on the knowledge and experience of you guys and this community
