PNI RX 5000 Radar Laser Detector with Digital Compass LCD $29.95

I ordered one earlier like 6:00pm, hell you could at least sell the thing for as much as you bought it for if it's that bad, not all the reviews were bad either. I read some on amazon.com said it was a good highway detector, i haven't seen many detectors that are good for crap in the city. I'm just hoping it can pick up the county mounties like my 1980 something cobra, picked up whatever lame old radar they use about a mile away everytime. Oh yeah isn't the 360 laser detection kind of a over flaunted feature since they have to be stationary and hit you while approaching...... well last time i read about laser they did Good deal and all I need is some X band detection on the highway

Not sure why it was clearenced though. Never said why it was in the description.

I don't have AMEX, but anways... they don't list the product on the site anymore. The link says it is no longer sold anymore.


I'm not sure how AMEX BVG works, but they probably wouldn't accept it since it's no longer listed.

FCC is supposedly enacting new laws for radar detectors such that they must meet strict emissions standards. This is in response to radar detectors interfering with VSAT (very small aperature sattelite terminals) at gas stations etc. I'm sure that this is why we've seen price cuts in radar detectors lately (like Cobra 2 for 1 deal). They probably are not allowed to market or sell devices that do not meet new standards after a certain date. Check out a couple of informative articles.

Yeaaaa! Finally, the first time i've gotten in on a HOT deal. I bought it when this thread first started, and thought what the heck, for $35 dollars how can i go wrong? LOL

BTW: I have NO sense of direction whatsoever, so this compass feature is a godsend!

Kinda funny. I thought PNI must have gone out of business or something because I could not get to their website for the life of me yesterday. Turns out it was just slammed... probably because of this deal. This looks like their best product (except for the one with altimeter but detector and compass are same as the 5000).

keep your fingers crossed. Some people over at obesepocketbook had their orders cancelled. When called, buy.com told them that they are backordered and that they don't think they will ever get more in. Go figure. I don't know why they would sell more than they have. Especially since whenever it would go out of stock on Monday after an hour or so they would post that they had more.

Alright!, i just got mine this morning UPS. The unit comes in a very nice retail package (that hard to open plastic kind!)
The unit is a silver color, very sharp looking. I installed it today and had to calibrate the compass which took like 2 seconds.
I had a Uniden before this that i liked, it just died though.
This thing is Very nice. The compass feature is just TOO COOL! It has a very bright LED display that tells you exactly which direction
your going and what degree like 235 degrees NW.
It's already picked up a cop for me and even had the 'roadwork' word come up near some construction, how cool!!
I must say, for those of u who get this, it's definitely worth the $35!!!

Good luck to the rest of you who ordered this, if you get it, you won't be dissapointed

Man, this stinks... I ordered mine on 9/9/02 4:37pm EST and still hasn't shipped.

Just out of curiosity, of those who have been shipped and received theirs, what shipment process did you do? I did the cheapest one.
