I got a PNY 460 card because my other one crapped out on me. I think I told you about that. At the time, I had my computer overclocking to 3.0. I have currently a q6600 and 4 gigs of 3200 ddr2 ram. But ever since I have had the card in, I cant overclock it to 3.0 anymore. Everytime I try to do it, it just restarts and doesnt let me know. Do you know any reason this will be happening because of this new graphics card. Is there a problem with power? I really dont think so. Maybe its time to ugprade the processor and motherboard. Thank for your help.

One of the downsides to an nvidia card is higher CPU utilization, so a once stable overclock might not have been as stable as you thought.

The other possibility is your PSU not being able to handle a higher power draw.

There is no way your CPU is a bottleneck. If its a OCed to say 3.4Ghz , it is not a bottleneck just open speedfan or taskman ull see games take avg 60 percent of the Q6 power. Sometimes 90 percent in COD Black Ops,, but avg 70 percent. Which means its not a bottleneck end of story. Now with a swank new CPU you might get a couple more FPS ,, but no need. Maybe for a SLI 580 or a 590 u would then really think about getting new CPU. gl,,

Only dual core all amd and intel are bottleneck for the video card.

Especially if you have your Q6 OCed heavy then your seeing all the frames the card can spit out. With a new I3 or I5 or I7 ,, its already soo fast,, u cant tell diff.

Thats pure bull.

Your card being nV has nothing to do with it. Your mobo, PSU, or CPU could have degraded over time.

Sounds like it's probably the PSU. Also, any 3ghz dual-core CPU is fine for any graphics card (cept maybe a P4).

You are entitled to your opinion, no need to be a dick about it. I already covered the PSU and yes going to a higher cpu utilization card CAN effect the stability of an overclock if its not 100% stable to begin with.

Your PSU is the likely cause, more specifically it doesn't have enough amps on the +12V line(s). This results in flaky stability. I would recommend you check your PSU specs and act accordingly.

Same results as here.

Try removing the added power connectors from the GTX 460, and see if you can hit higher CPU speeds. If so, then go ahead and get a decent PSU.

If that doesn't work, make sure your memory multiplier is forced to 2.0. The P35-DS3 will go to defaults after a failed OC, so if you just raise speeds again, without changing settings back to manual, you'll be running your RAM quite a bit OCed.
