I'm happy to report that my card unlocked successfully. I've run 3DMark05, rthdribl, and a couple games and haven't seen any artifacts... and I saw an increase of 350 3DMarks.

It is a little louder than I would have hoped though. I thought these things where supposed to have variable fans? Mine sounds the same (fairly loud) all the way from idle-46C to 70C (the highest I could take it by running rthdribl fullscreen for over an hour).

I finally got ahold of one, but unfortunately mine doesn't fully unlock without artifacts. The vertex unit will unlock fine, but the pixel units don't. Too bad the extra vertex unit doesn't make any real difference in games. Oh well, it lets me play HL2 at native resolutions with all the high details, so I'm happy.

From what I've read here and in the newegg comments, it's 50/50. Mine unlocked fine thankfully... I've read reviews from other people and some unlocked fine, some had to lock the pipes, and one had to lock the vertex unit.

This is the best bang for your buck card on the market imo. My only complaint is that it's a little loud, but since it uses the reference cooler I can't really fault it for that.

hi guys,

i've just received my pny 6800 from newegg,
opened it up, and found a rectangular component chipped off
and floating around the box.

when i took a closer look, it is one
of those larger rectangular components on the underside of the
video card that broke off, which is no big deal because i can probably
resolder it on...

however upon even closer inspection, i noticed two
more smaller rectangular components that have been broken off,
and were nowhere to be found floating around the box.

for those of you who have received your cards, can you inspect
yours for such defects? i was just wondering if it will run like this
or should i rma. (maybe that's why this was so cheap?) is it due to
the two small parts that broke off causing the card to have unstable
pipes thus becoming a 6800 instead of a gt? they are really not
noticeable unless you look real closely. if you guys have perfect
pny 6800's i am just gonna rma before i even try to use it.

i'll tell u the exact locations for the components where mine broke off:
when looking at the underside of the vid card with the agp slot facing
you,

1. C531 just left of the left-most screw broke off and is recovered and
resoderable

2. C695 and C914 at the top of the card in between the two top-most screws
broke off and were no where to be found
