The 6600gt does beat the 6800 in quite a few benchmarks that I can tell. Tom's summer shootout has them both listed with the 6800 having 256 MB of ram and it gets beats routinely in frame rate benchmarks.

earlier towards the end of last year, i got in on that BB HL2+BFG 6800NU deal. the first card softmodded fine and ran like a champ for 2 days before crapping out. when i took the card back, they only had those with capacitors with different color bands on them. unfortunately, unlocking the pipelines resulted in artifacts in 3dmark. if memory serves me right, any card built at around that point and after cannot be softmodded without artifacts in 32bit. correct me if i am wrongOriginally posted by: dirtrat
I'd NEVER buy a 6600GT over a 6800. You can always softmod the pipes and vertex shaders. Your fooling yourself if you think the 6600GT is better. I have 2 PNY 6800's and both both fully softmoded with no problems and both cards come with 3 year warranty. Very good deal.

Well I'm scheduled to get mine Wed, so I'll report back with how well it unlocks.
I'm more concerned about noise. I have a fairly quiet system and hope to keep it that way. I was originally going to get a Leadtek when they got back in stock since they're supposed to have quieter fans, but saving $30+ was too tempting. If the PNY is too noisy, I guess I can just spend the $30 on an aftermarket cooler.
