My card was received undamaged. It was a tight fit within the plastic, with another layer on top and then shrink-wrapped. Good luck with the RMA guys, with newegg, it should be a breeze. I think I should find some places to find out how to "unlock" mine as well. Any suggestions?

I ordered mine on Monday and received it on Wednesday. I did not overclock or unlock anything. It was shipped very nice from New Egg. Impressed and I was not paid to say that. I do have a problem. Here it is:

I'm not that much of a GPU or overclocking GURU. I had a PNY 5200 prior to the PNY 6800. I was using the Omega drivers at on point and switch to the factory drivers when BF2 came out. I was told to uninstall the previous drivers and reboot. After I rebooted Windows did not boot up. Now I'm stuck. I'm guessing it uninstalled a graphic driver or DLL that Windows needed to run. Where can I find the procedure enabling me back into Windows XP?

The reason I uninstalled these drivers because I wanted to have a clean install of the 6800(running around 54 idle and 60 at load at stock). Is that high or normal for the GPU? Any recommendations?

Also, tried running BF2 prior to this user error. So far these are my video options. 800*600*75 almost everything on high or 10*7*75 everything on low. WTF? I was expecting at least be at 10*7*75 with everything at high(getting like 15fps). Is this right? If I decide to overclock the card would this change a lot.

cherry pik - try doing this - run in safe mode and open MSCONFIG. Tell it to start up no services or anything in windows. With any luck, that will get you in and let you reinstall the drivers.

As for BF2 performance, what is the rest of your system? High on this game == VERY INTENSE on the whole computer, don't expect it to be playable with less than 2 gigs of ram. This is what I have read, there is a good thread over in Video about it. Yes, with a decen system you should be able to run 1024*768 with most things on high. Your temps are perfectly normal for this card.

Blkgrffn, thanks for the quick reply. I editted my initial post regarding my computer specs. The boot sequence does not allow me to go into safe mode. It tells me to put in a bootable disk. It's like I wiped off my complete harddrive but didn't. I luckily had a backup harddrive of all my files with Windows on it but it is not reconizing that drive at all when I boot up from my backup drive. Never happenned to me. I really don't want to reformat the harddrive and start from scratch.

Well, it sounds like HD may have died. To get into safe mode, hit F5 while it is booting, it won't be in your bios boot options. Bad luck Hate when that happens. Make sure that your powersupply is adequate for your new amount of consumption.

mine arrived a day early, packaged well and looks in perfect condition as far as i can tell. ran 3dmark 05 with no artifacts. everything seems to be fine so i am not even going to try unlocking the pipes for a few days. running at 48C idle, 45C with the case open.

I would jump on this if it was in stock if and there wasn't the risk that the card would come damaged and then i would have to go through the difficult process of rma.

yep card came in today and works great. slight anomolies when running all 16 pipes, but the extra vertex shader works fine as expected.

I have mine overclocked to 400/849 with the stock cooler, hangs out in the mid-sixties with gaming according to Everest and Speedfan. Didn't fully unlock though...artifacts. At least the vertex shader unlocked and it overclocks well.

I'm back in business. I MBR was corrupted and I had to go into system recovery to fix it and boya. Now, my Maxtor is making a horrible whinning noise. Is it going bad? Can I fix that?

Anyway, I'm still running my 6800 at stock with good results. I'm currently running BF2 @ 12*10*75 with medium settings. Thinking of dropping the AA. I currently have it at 2x. Would I notice a big difference in the clarity? Should I OC it a little. I'm afraid to try and unlock the pipes/shaders. I'll evently do it but if OCing it will get me to 80fps in the 12*10*75 w/2xAA that will suit me just fine.

Glad to hear you are back, but you need to get off that HD ASAP. Try running the coolbits OC utility at this point, if you need to know how to do that google is your friend I am guessing that you should get at least 375 on that core with some testing, which should be a pretty big kick in the pants at that point. I would use coolbits, run 3dMark05, if no artifacts, up the core by 10 mhz, run again, if you run into problems, start backing the core off by 5 mhz. Once you are confident in that, do the same for the memory. If you could get to 800 mhz on the ram, that is a pretty big step up, too...

Decided to unlock the four extra pipes sucessfully. I'm probably not going to OC it now.

What is the most resonable FPS to play a game like BF2 on? I'm guessing like 45. Is that too low?
