read somewhere that a powersupply not supplying adequate voltage can make the text appear blurry.... just a thought, what kind of power supply do you have?

thats pushing it for your system.... got a bigger one you can try? >=450W or so?

Also, are you connecting the video card to its own power rail? or sharing it with some other piece of hardware?

I've had no problems with blurry text on my AOpen 6800GT. It look just as clear as my prior ATI 9000Pro. It's not really nVidia's fault if some vendors use questionable DACs.

Just something to try, but please consider it because I've been there, and this was my solution, one I never thought would even be possible. If your monitor allows it, try swapping out the monitor cable.

I was experiencing ghosting (like a double shadow of everything a little to the right of each object), and it frustrated me to no end. Made 2D look horrible, especially at high resolutions (was in 3D too but VERY hard to see there).

Replaced my what-I-thought-was high-quality gold-connector monitor cable with an old (albeit thicker) regular one and whala, picture cleared up completely! So now I have a new (DVI to VGA) cable on order that I hope will fix this (one I'm using will work for the time being, but it's not in great shape either - lol).

I almost didn't try this. I ran 1600 x 1200 32 bit on my old Ti4600 with the cable without any problem, but the 6800 just doesn't like it. (I even had a brand new one...same model cable...lying around and tried it - same result...it's something about the cable or shielding or something.)

Anyways, if you haven't tried it and can (I know some monitor cables are built in), I would...

Good luck. Know this is frustrating.

Returned the PNY 6800 /128Mb and got a PNY 6800 GT.

2D looks alot better now. It's comparable to my old GF Ti4200 2D.

Gained a few fps in 1024x768 on Doom3. $100 = 8fps. lol

Anyway, I'm happy with the new card. No more eye strain.

I must be the luckiest guy in the world cuz I've had almost every Nvidia card from the TNT to the 6800GT and I've had little complaint about 2D quality with any of them and I run 1600x1200 @ 75Hz. Now, I have had bluriness with my secondary PC that gets the hand-me-downs, but I've got a cruddy Sylvania monitor that I blame for that.

Hey guys, I'm glad Atomic fixed his problem and is happy with the GT.

Question, how do you identify your monitor or is it ok for Win to just see it as 'default display'.

Secondly, lol I just checked my settings and it was set at 60hz all these years. I never noticed a difference, but changed it to 85hz and this should be easier on the eyes?

I'm having this issue now And I'm 400 miles away from the CompUSA at which I purchased the card. Looks like I'll have to see about an RMA or something if I can't find a fix.

There's 3 threads about this now with over 10 people reporting this problem.
This IS A WIDELY know problem about this card.
People need to take their head out of their asses and stop blaming it on the users' monitors.

Hmmm, I installed some beta drivers and it fixed it...temporarily. I changed my refresh rate from 60 Hz to 72 Hz and that fvcked up the text again, and now changing it back doesn't fix it again.

btw, compusa has a "open box" return policy..you have to pay 15% of the retail price if you return it within 14 days

Not anymore, BIG sign in my local CUSA's saying they no longer charge the 15% restock fee, however they will NOT take back anything that has had the Proof of Purchase removed.

My PNY is running GREAT, no problems at all, Text is crystal clear . now I am just trying to get some help with the OC'ing and unlocking the pipes.. I am a newb at OC'ing so if anyone wants to help look for my thread on Page 1

when i have my resolution relatively low ( at 1024x768 ) my screen doesn't flicker. but when i have my resolution at 1280x1024 it starts to flicker a bit. what might be the possible cause of this?

Yep, I get fuzzy text too with the BFG 6800OC. I returned my first one, which was fine for 2D, and the second one I got is now real fuzzy. Kinda sucks. THe second one is going back too and I'm reinstalling my Quadro for the time being.

My friend take one PNY 6800 for me in CompUSA detroit.

He can´t test it, and he is bringing it to Brazil.

The first one was missing a capacitor, and he exchange it, the second one is complete, with all the capacitor, hope it works fine, I can´t RMA it from here (Brazil).

if you use cleartype, then you need to go to microsoft's 'cleartype tuner' site and tweak it, some LCD monitors look like crap on the default setting. this is a common issue, but can usually be corrected using the 'tuner'.

do a web search and you will find the site.

I agree - my BFG 6800 text is sharp and clear (no difference from my 9800pro) using DVI out, but fuzzy on the analog out. BFG has offered an exchange, but I'm only using DVI for now so I'm not sure I will do it.

Try using image sharpening in the control panel. That could clear it up a little bit for ya. I use Digital Vibrance on the very first "Medium" tick, 1.16 gamma, and 1/8 image sharpening with my 6800GT
