PNY 6800 soft mod Question

I was having the same issue with activating the rest of the pipes on the PNY card, but it not staying. I think I might be on to something, but I'd like for someone else to double-check me:

Under the NVStrap driver tab, there is a setting for "Graphics adapter identification" It's normally set to "determined by hardware." Once I changed it to "0045 (NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT)" and rebooted, my pc reinstalled the card as a 6800 GT just like it was a different card. Once I did that, the custom reads (16X1,6vp) and it seems to be staying put.

Can someone else give this a shot and see how it goes?

BUT:
These benchmark scores are functions of the CPU and memory as well as the graphics card.
I imagine that on a CPU-limited system, changing the graphics card performance will not have as much effect as on a system with a very fast CPU (or memory).

My CPU is P4C 2.6G.
My memory is 2X512 PC3200.

Well I was wrong, it still didn't stick Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up. Still hoping someone can find a fix...

If the card artifacts on stock speeds after softmodding, it means the pipelines are faulty. If it takes the softmod at stock without any artifacts, but starts artifacting after overclocking, you'll need a better cooler if you want to keep going. I don't think you're damaging the card when it's artifacting, unless heat buildup is excessive, but that's usually not so unless you attempt a really high overclock after softmodding right off the bat. I'd put a better cooler on the card anyway. Extra pipes cause more heat.

nvstrap is part of it. It is selected in the custom portion of you card, choose the first option in the icons that will go left to right. You'lll see something there.

My BFG 6800 OC softmodded to 16 x 6. It even sticks after a reboot, and no artifacts. This is a newer card w/the A60 sticker, so I guess you can still get lucky.

according to the forums at guru3d linked to in this thread, the issue should be resolved with rivatuner release 15.3.

Chalk up another successful softmod BFG 6800. For some reason the mod wouldn't stick but I used the command line string posted by unwinder over at guru3d forums.
