PNY 7900GS - $ 120 AR/PM

Hi all,

Wanted to share this as I did not see it exactly in the forums. Best Buy has this card for $ 149.99 OTD. I PM'd at CompUsa and out spit a non advertised rebate for $ 30 back to the PNY manufacturer (good 12/1 - 12/30). Incidental luck. I was thinking of a 7950/7900Gt/X1950Pro, but anyone who is in the market for a mid level card, ..... the price to performance ratio can't be beat picking up a retail ($210/$230) card NIB for $120 plus tax when all is said and done. I'll save it for the next upgrade.

I have gotton my rebates back from pny in the past.

It is a good deal. I am going to pass on it myself though because I just don't want to drive about 70 miles round trip to do it. If I could do it online I might do it. I guess I could call the online store and see what they say.

Yeah. I took the BB add and walked into CUSA. You have two choices: act suprised about the rebate or ignore it when the 17yr old kid looks at it and throws it in the trash when it prints out . I gave him the old "what is that?" honestly non knowing for sure, but having some idea that it could be (when it was printing out afterwards)..... and he says "looks like a rebate, guess you made out pretty well if you want it." Slight YMMV but not much. Just ignore the rebate when it prints out if you want to avoid any confrontation. Pretty easy deal and no brainer if you're looking to upgrade.

What are the chances you wont get the rebate if they PM?
if that is the case then can you just use the online rebate form?

Just got back from compusa, the sales guy that rang it up was by the book. So no rebate for me. If it would of been the guy that did the check if it was in stock at best buy, he probobly would of did it. YMMV. No biggie still a very cheap card.

I'm also curious as to whether they will honor the online rebate form if they show PM on the receipt. If so, I'll ebay the 6800 GS in my second machine for this.

While Circuit City has denied rebates after price matching, I have never heard of CompUSA doing it nor PNY. There is no wording in the online rebate form to indicate that they would. I know I would fight any denial on those grounds.

Thanks for the quick reply Allisolm... I'll probably get one tonight, as they only had five at my store. I just got an XFX for a relative, the one clocked at 525/1500, and was very impressed.

There's already a link to the rebate form. It is at CompUSA.

I did this exact same deal last month (pricematched to BB @ CompUSA), and sent in the $30 rebate, and already got an email that it was approved. You won't have any problems getting this deal to work.

Just installed it. Haven't had time to mess with oc it yet. The difference in bf2142 from my agp 6800 is night and day. <--- Technical term. I can finally crank the aa and high settings.

I got the XFX 7600GS last week for $50 AR. Is this worth the bother? How can I return my card to Buy.com without taking a hit? Its still 100% sealed.

Was going to get this weeks BB deal but was waiting to see if I or anyone posted a new RZ coupon. Didn't happen so glad this came around. Will be about $265 total for my new SLI babies.

That's what I'm hoping for. Replacing my main rig's 6800 with dual 7900. SLi may be overkill but on my 24" dell WS playing at native resolution is a good FPS killer.

Is it me? I really don't see this as that YMMV. The rebate is the manufacturer's rebate (sponsored by Compusa). If you're willing to fight or even take the risk, than it's a no brainer. Send the form online with your receipt if you have to. Darned good card for this price.

It's you. My CompUSA won't PM because the local BB is out ofstock, so it's definitely YMMV for me.

Well I got screwed outta this deal. Went to compusa showed them the ad and asked them to pm. They wouldn't because the best buy across the street from them was outta stock. I explained that the best buy over by the airport had them in stock, but they insisted that they will only price match if the best buy across the street had them.
