i got CompUSA to match the $149.99 best buy price, plus there is a $30.00 manufacturer rebate, so it is $127.50 AR including tax,but compusa no longer has a offical PM policy, it is manager's discretion , so its a YPMMV.

Curious--how does this compare to the EVGA 7600GT that CC has on Black Friday for $90? It's basically $50 more...is it worth that?

Thanks OP. Got the last one on the shelf in Seekonk, MA.

Now all I need is a new system with PCI-Express support! I can't decide on whether or not I should snag an Athlon 64/mobo combo on the cheap or wait a bit for the Core 2 Duo's to drop in price.

If you're not building the system now, then why in the world did you purchase the video card?

Because it's a HOT DEAL. Duh.

How is it hot when you don't have a computer to put it in?
By the time you're ready to build the system, the same exact amount of money will buy you a much better card. Duh.

I think it is barely driving my AMD dual core (thought I never saw any issue till date).

i too had a opteron 165 with a x800gt runing on a PSU that stated 6amps on the 12v rail. i got mine from pakistan. its a wonder how these PSU son't blow up.

Picked mine up tonight but could not use the 12% off with the online order. So I just grabbed the last one on the shelf and went to the register and they honored the 12% off. I needed my temp. membership to the zone.

Some woman was behind me with a 512 mb 7600 and I tried to tell her she didn't need 512 mb with a 17" monitor. Her logic was her computer has been locking up on her so she needed it. LOL She paid way more than I did. I remembered afterward that Circ de City has the 512 mb 7900 one on sale this week for like $179. That would have been good for her 17" monitor he he.

Thanks for the tip hans bond.

Doubtful. I'll have a new system built before the end of the year.

If we all thought like you we'd never build new systems. Gotta pull the trigger some time and this was my kick in the pants to get moving.

I did the same thing as tbogstad except I got them to take the 12% off coupon too. My local CompUSA did a PM, accepted the 12% off coupon and CompUSA has a $30 mail-in rebate until 11/18/06. So, it came to $142.52 OTD minus $30 rebate = $112.52

Just got back from the Palm Beach Gardens, Florida BB. The item was on the shelf for 199 and scanned at that price. I told the salesperson about the sale price and he checked online and it showed as 199 on the web page he displayed. So I come in to work, fire up my browser and there it is on sale for $149. Needless to say I wasted 45 minutes going down there and this is just one more reason I rarely shop BB. (how the heck can his browser show it at 199?? I even refreshed the page on my work computer to make sure it was not cached)

I will wait for the Egg to lower the price, or just hang out for a DX10 card....

I picked one up at CompUSA today, pricematched to Best Buy's price, and it spit out the $30 rebate form as well. Nice card for $120!

you should have printed out your page from home and brought it and shoved it in their faces. 20/20 hindsight though...

I just don't know why I try to PM. Happens every time. Three people at the CompUsa I went to said it's not the same card. There's a '-CUS' at the end of the model number. One smart guy even said it's DDR memory not DDR3 as described in the Best Buy web page. Now here's the weird thing, I can't find the model number on the PNY website. I do see VCG7900SXWB but not VCG7900SXPB as listed on the Best Buy site or VCG7900SXPB-CUS as listed on the COMPUSA site. When I find the item on Newegg, and link to the product page of the manufacturer, the number changes. I wanted them to bring the card out of "lockup" to see what the box said but they wouldn't bring it out to look at the box unless I was willing to buy it. Walking distance from Best Buy but was too disgusted to go get it...with my luck they will probably be OOS tomorrow.

Also, when asked why I was PMing it, I said there's a rebate and they told me when the manufacturer saw the marked down price, they wouldn't honor the rebate. That's not the first time I've heard that either. Anyone know if that's true?

That is not true.

Tom?s hardware reviewed this exact PNY card. Link

Here?s what they had to say about the fan noise:

?To make things better still, Nvidia heard the cries of its constituents and designed a better cooler for the GeForce 7900GS. While the heatsink itself is no different than the one on the GeForce 7900GT, the fan is a winner. Nvidia also enabled variable speed fan control on both of the new cards, so gamers will no longer have to hear the whine of a fan as it spins at high speed. In fact, the only time we heard it was under long-term use while looping 3DMark05, when the fan needed to ramp up under the excess heat of this torture test.?

I bought this card from BB online to replace my 7600GT. It may be a minor bump, but AmEx will buy back my 7600GT for the 160.00 I paid for it. To sum it up, I'm getting better performance for 10 bucks cheaper.
