The 7900GS is a huge improvement over any 6800, it should be about equal to a 7800GTX or slightly slower than a 7900GT.

Think I'll pick up one of these to replace a 6800 in my main to replace the 5800 in my secondary. Just need to find a cheap mobo for the 6800 to fit in.

Got in one one !!! Great price on a great card, except that my 350W PSU will have to be junked finally !!!

Ordered it for in-shop pickup and they actually ran out of stock when I called to pick up (so irritating). Now they are shipping it to me for free. Anyone have a idea how long it takes for BB to ship stuff ?

Unless your system is loaded, a quality 350 watt PSU could be enough (see recommended currents to be sure). All the test reports show that in terms of power consumption this card is among the least demanding.

I just upgraded from a 6800 AGP card to an EVGA 7900GS

It is a MAJOR improvement! Though I had to also swap my CPU and motherboard to a PCI-Express setup.

Well blackperl, the bad news is that I never concentrated on my PSU when I got it in India last year. Now that I understood more about the need for cleaner and better power on the comp, I see that that one I got can deliver 9A on the 12v rail !!! Pathetic.

I think it is barely driving my AMD dual core (thought I never saw any issue till date).

You're definitely due for a PSU upgrade - it's a minor miracle that a dual core system works on 9A! Congratulations on your new GPU and soon-to-be-upgraded system.

I got in on one. I'm surprised this is not generating more attention. This is absolutely the best bang for the buck ATM. I daresay even more so than the GTO. Where else can you get a midrange card of this calibur for around $140 out the door?

Picked one up from Florence Ky Best Buy, to replace a 6800gt, big improvement in Need for Speed Carbon, Sweet price for such performance, Everywhere else has them for around $200. Only gripe is you can hear the fan ramp up when starting a game, but it tapers off after you exit the game. I normally hate Best Buy, but the price was too cheap to pass up. Anyone know if there is any chance of unlocking pipelines on this model? thnks. Oh ya forgot to mention, there was a 7800 series card right next to this one that was over $300 bucks lol..

It states that it will take off the retail price, so YMMV. With the coupon, the card was 131.99 before tax. (139 or so after tax for me)

Compusa has the card for 179.99 after a $30 rebate. You could try to PM the price, but YMMV. You would have to pay 150 + tax (around 160 for me) - 30 rebate. Ends up being slightly more at BB if you can use the 12% coupon, plus no rebate hassles.

doesn't circuitcity have a 110% pricematch?

yes but there are alot of story's of people either being deined the Pm becasue the after rebate price is lower or being denied the rebate because of a price match.

I am gonna try this though and rep[ort back, as it will save like $30.00 more dollars if all goes threw, and thats worth the hassle to me.

In for 1. For < $150, this is a good deal even though I wanted a G80 based card (or the new R600). I'll just keep it boxed and see what comes out over the next couple of weeks.

Picked one up yesterday.
Going to sit out the next few months of DX10 wars and buy around March/April.
This will more than hold me over till then!

Thanks OP. Got the last one on the shelf in Seekonk, MA.

Now all I need is a new system with PCI-Express support! I can't decide on whether or not I should snag an Athlon 64/mobo combo on the cheap or wait a bit for the Core 2 Duo's to drop in price.

the 7800GS is AGP I believe. There is no way it will beat a non-SLI 7800GT PCI-e card.

If you're not building the system now, then why in the world did you purchase the video card?

there is little that the pci-e express has to do with performance. True, the 7800gt is a superior card, but leave out the "agp" and "pci-e" notations next time. The only performance gain of pci-e is the x16 bandwidth and virtually no games take advantage of that. People often associate pci-e as the greater performer, but the fact is that the mfgs only make th more powerful cards for pci-e, so the pci-e cards are obviously better.

EDIT: Ex. an agp x850xt is the same performance as a pci-e x850xt.

well it does matter for a few cards. the agp versions of the 6800gs and 6600gt were slower than the pci-e ones.

That's b/c the core clock was clocked 80mhz higher on the 6800gs pci-e than the agp version.

One of my local stores went OOS today, but the closer one had 8+ on the shelf still. Had no problem getting it for $139 final price.

Now just need to get a PCI-Express board for my other comp to plug the old 6800 in it.
