PNY CD-R media any good?

A while back I bought a stack of PNY 80 min CD-R's. I've finally gotten around to using them, and I've noticed that I get lots of pops/clicks in the last few minutes (ie: in the 74-80 minute range) of the music CD's I've recorded with them.

These are the first 80 minute CD-R's I've used, so I don't know if it's my CD-R, the media, the software, or what. I'm inclined to blame the media, but who knows... My CD-RW is a Plextor 8/4/32 IDE, and I'm using Adaptec EZ CD-Creator 3.something.

NO! I've not had good luck with them.

I haven't had any problems with PNY media (I've gone through almost 100), but it seems that a lot of ATers have.

My favorite brand of CD-R media is the FujiFilm 80min (made in Japan).

Another vote for Fuji here - made by Taiyo Yuden who is pretty much considered the best manufacturer. PNY is usually coaster city for me unless I burn it at 2x or 4x.

I agree with that %100. I bought a pack of 100 and maybe got 75 to burn right. Then after a couple months the damn things start to fall apart. The tops start chipping away. Guess thats what I get for paying 20 cents a cd.

I bought a 200-pack of 'Prime Peripherals' 80min cdr's at bulk. Which only cost me $20 due to the store is closing there doors. These media is rated for 16x and I have burned many cdr's at 12x without any problems at all. I just wish I had bought another box of 200 cdr's at that price. But hey I all ready have all most 300 cdr's.

no, it's like other cheapy cd-r, made by either Reitek or CMC.

I tried 10, for burning audio cd, almost all of them have one skip at different posiiton during playback.

now, there are sales on sony and fuji 50-pack spindle for $15 oftenly,
no need to consider pny.

They work but they are not good. I don't mean the burn. The problem is that the disks are very soft and scrach and damage easily which also can hinder burning on a brand new CD. PNYs are cheap because they are and you can use them for test burns and stuf but I would not use them for something that is important or something that I intend to have for a while.

How are the PENGO CDRs from NewEgg? comparable to other manufactuers?

What about the "Precision Gold" PNY? I bought 10 for $20. That $2.00/cd-r. They are rated at 24x.

never used any normal PNY cd-rs but i've gone through 2 spindles of the black diamonds with out a problem with any of them

hmm, i got a pack of 50 Black Diamon PNY 80min media not too long ago, so far didnt have problems with them, they burn and play fine, but we will see as they age a bit.

I've used PNY for the longest time since their so cheap and I haven't had a single problem in the 1000+ cd's i've burned...

I bought a 100 pack recently (about $5 after the Staples rebate). I used about a dozen so far with maybe one problem, but even that I can't be sure was the fault of the media. Can't say how they age, but I hope the other posters are wrong. Even for $5, I'd hate to have to dump the rest of the disks just to be safe.

Oddly enough, thats the only Media my freaking Plextor will burn correctly...I got a snobby Plextor me thinks.
