It's a BFG running 400/400
But speeds should be similar if that's what you're talking about.

I'm looking for a review of the card itself. Quality-wise. There are millions of "reviews" of the FX chipset(s) and the technology, I don't need that...

IMO most important thing of a retail card is the quality of the HSF. I've had these fail (twice, both were "Leadtek" cards) and the card overheats, computer crashes...

Also want to know the quality of the VGA out and the video out. Why aren't there more reviews along these lines?? Who cares about benchmarks, they will be within 2% of each other no matter what card manufacturer...

I don't know about the PNY 5600 Ultra, but I can tell you that I have a PNY 128MB TI4200 and I have been very pleased with it's quality and performance. The HFS seems high quality, and is not noisy. The card handles Jedi Knight II at 1024 x 768 high quality settings very well, has very good graphic quality, and is very fluid even when I've spawned 30 entities which are all jumping around fighting each other.

I'm not so sure about their RAM, but I think their vid card PCBs/HSFs are pretty nice.

if quality video out is a priority than I would recomend an ATI even saphire and powercolour provide the 10bit dacs and high quality filters on there cards... that are also on the BBA reference cards.. also if you game and are looking for something that will give you no/lo cost 4xAA and 8xAF than the 9600 is your friend.

also the speed is in the range of the 5600 ultra.

This Doom3 benchmark article at Hardocp might be interesting to read given the context of this post. It shows the FX5600 Ultra consistently out-performing the 9600 Pro. In fact, if I remember the article correctly, they state that all FX cards, even the lowly 5200, do well using this new engine.

I don't know much about video card tech issues, but I have a feeling that the Doom3 engine is going to redefine things, and that the FX cards will do quite well. Right now, I'm wondering that if ATI cannot improve performance via their drivers then they may suddenly find themselves playing catchup big time (which might mean premature obsolescene for many of their current card owners!).

I have both an ATI 9600 Pro and a TI4200 and I like them both very much. Currently I'm leaning toward the eVGA 5600 Ultra, partly because of this review. The card they have shipped with 2.2ns RAM (rated to do 900MHz) and they tested the card at 485/979. They only give it an 80%, but then they didn't have the Doom3 tool that hardocp has.

I wouldn't buy a crippled up, slow 5600Ultra. Spend $50 more for a 5800reg and get double the fill rate if you must have mid range nVidia.

yeah and I would not put much faith into a review that was used with alpha software and hand carried to the reviewer by an NVIDIA employee to be tested than removed... If ID had brought the software I would be alittle more flexible with the review.

I wonder if kyle would do that review now...

i had a pny 5600fx non ultra. and if thats the case.. their heatsink is very very good. itll never get hot. i have a basic front intake/ rear exhaust case setup. and itll never get hot cuz of the nice heatsink. its like a custom heatsink. i have sold this card because it was not good in gaming, but as for vga out/video out it offers everything in excellent quality. the guy that i sold the card to was not into gaming but was into video out. he told me that the 256mb that it carries is very handy for tv playing.

Your friend spent $180+ for a card with good video out? My God, what a waste of money. You realize 256MB does even less for "TV playing" than for 3D games? He could've gotten the same effect with a $50-70 GF4MX / GF FX 5200 / Radeon 9000, with the added bonus of no fan on the heatsink, thus no added case noise.

i got a huge discount on my 5600u-v.2, but card doesn't oc worth crap! highest using coolbits was from 400/800 ==> 427/842

are you sure it is a version 2.0 I have seen regular ultras sold at 400/800 the version to is a flipchip package.. that is the main way to tell.
