the store with the clearance price in my area didnt have it in stock , bought it at the store with regular price and was able to do a return/rebuy at the store with clearance price, bit of work but worth it for the price, should be a decent upgrade to my 7300gt

Nice little card for the money, about the equivalent of a 7600gt, slightly faster in some cases, and would fare better in an HTPC.

Are these labeled as that price or do you have to take them to get scanned? I don't think I've ever seen a clearance tag or sticker at BB except for open box crap.

I did a search of local Best Buys this morning. I called and asked for inventory and price of the sku# 8354504. They said they had one and the price was $120. I asked if they would 'price match' another Best Buy store and they said yes. The second store I called had zero on hand, but the price was $109. They told me a third location that had none, but had the price listed as $36.

I went to the store that had one and got it price matched. Of course, the teller (at the customer service desk) couldn't overide the price and had to call a manager. The manager first said NO, then checked with someone who said YES. As the cashier rang me up and had my money in her hand, the same manager came over and said hold it. Someone had told her NO. While she and the that someone (another manager maybe?) went back and forth overr it on the phone, I stood there waiting with my money left sitting on top of the cash register by the teller (who had moved on to help other customers). Finally the manager came back over and said 'He said its OK', and finished putting my money in the register and handed me my reciept.

Whew... Quite a bit of work and stress, but at least I got what I went there for.

BTW: I got a reply from Diamond MultiMedia saying that my sons X1650 Pro (that ran slower then advertised) was shipped back to me (I RMA'd it last week). I still don't have tracking info, but I'd expect it to be here by the end of the week.

Which card would be better for me? A 512MB X1650Pro or a 256MB 8600GT? My son is 12 Y.O., and his PC specs are: S754 3000+ CPU @2.4Ghz, 2GB Corsair 2,3,3,8, 80GB HD, Win XP Pro SP2.
GPU Review shows them like this (please remember to bump the X1650Pro's core up to 600 Mhz where it should be). I don't think we will be using Vista anytime soon in this household.

EDIT: Ooops.... I see that all 1650's are NOT created equal! I tried the X1650GT in GPUReview since the clock speeds were closer to what the X1650Pro's run at. Boy, was that a mistake! I didn't see that the GT has TWICE the Fragment Pipelines, Texture Units, and Raster Operations, as well as almost twice the Vertex Pipelines. That X1650 Pro @ 600/400 looks a lot worse now....

good stuff, normally its a big NO NO to call BB on a clearance deal, if they do have an item in stock with a very low price like this one, the employees normally buy themselves, I guess if you price match or do a return/rebuy its ok

Found one in my town. I'm going to just purchase it online and then return/buy when I go to the store when it opens. If they don't have one, I can expect some kind of goodie.

They had it for $110. So just returned it. They have a total of 6, so I may just wait a few days. At $110, it's still not good. It should be sub $100. I did laugh when I saw the 8600 GT OC 512 for $230.

Wow, thank you so much for posting this. I went into my local Best Buy where clearance prices NEVER drop. Our price was 133.49. I had them check the surrounding stores and the closests was $110. When I asked him to do an RSS he (it was a manager) asked if I worked at another BB and I told him no and that I had seen this listed on a website for $39. He asked me where and I told him it was just a techy website where I post. I told him I couldn't remember what stores had it at that price. He started perusing various districts but he couldn't find anything. He checked their cost on it and it was $113! I told him I remember there was a list of stores that had it at that price. I went to the back of the store and printed a list off a computer he told me had internet access and brought it back to him. Lo and behold we pulled up store #110 West Los Angeles California and it was $36.49. Without any hesitation he walked with me to a cashier at the front of the store, rang it up and manually price matched it $97.00 off to their price.

A word of advice: I used to work at BB a few years ago, and you can order from another store if you can find one at that price. If your BB refuses to PM, have that list handy and check the inventory of other stores. If you find one in stock and attempt to buy it from their store, they will probably just PM you to avoid the hassle of doing a buy out of another store. This guy just used BestBuy.com as his PM even tho it was another store.

So those stores on the list are the ONLY ones that have the clearance price? They still have it on their website, but the price is $183.99.
