Hi folks,

i recently puchased a PNY Geforce FX 5600 w/ 256MB.

I'm replacing a Visiontek TI 4600. Shutdown the system, slapped in the new card, powered up. Installed latest Detonator drivers.

For the most part the card seems to be functioning well. However i see some artifacts on the screen that come and go. I don't think it's a windows or driver thing since i see the artifcats on the screen even duing POST at boot up. I also see them in game (i mostly play games like Everquest).

Even though i didn't think it was a driver thing i've tried different drivers, have the latest BIOS upgrade on my Gigabyte GA-8INXP and have tried numerous different settings within the BIOS. I've disable all the OC'n in the BIOS so RAM/AGP/CPU are all running at stock voltages.
I also tried patching windows but that just caused more problems so i rolled back to a pre-patch state.
Performance of the card in game is pretty bad considering ..... my Ti 4600 performs better than it does.

Any ideas ?? Do i just have a bad card ??

the support site at PNY is pretty much useless when it comes to the FX series of their cards .. went through the nVidia FAQ's and not much to do there.

Sounds to me like you have a bad video card, test it in someone elses pc if you can. If you still get the same problems then send it back because it's defective!

Its possible you have the refresh rate of your monitor set at default. Bump up your refreash rate!
Dought your vid card is defective!

I too have the ti4600 - best card i've ever owned. I'll wait till prices come down before i upgrade. My card plays all the games perfect to me!

The 5600 performs well under a Ti4600 especially without AA/AF turned on. Its the 5600ultra that performs marginally better and its supposed to retail for something ridiculous like $249.

Try underclocking the card and see if that helps.
If it does get rid of the artifacts, then send the card back and get a new one, because that would indicate a card problem I'd say.

Someone else was posting about having a 256MB GF FX 5600 issue on GH, wouldn't boot up at all, consider yourself lucky yours does something

Thanks for all the replies folks. Haven't had time to work on it at all, but will try another PC later this week.
