Here's a link to a thread going on over at FW.
PNY GeForce FX 5900 256MB Ultra card packed inside some 5900SE 128MB boxes - Very YMMV w/rebate at CC as low as $190
All credit should go to Walleteer "Dork" who mentioned that he had purchased one from both Circuit City and COMPUSA in this thread here.
Hopefully the moderators don't flag this as a repost since the original post did not mention the the product switch, and is not specific to CC.
To save time I will quote myself from that thread:
Holy Moley! Dork is right on the money. Went to CC this morning and they had 2 5900SE cards on the shelf. Both had the same green (not blue, not aquamarine)PCB and big black heatsink on the back of the card. I even had them crack open the box to take a look. Got it home, and sure enough it has 8 BGA memory chips on the front and 8 on the back. Popped off the heatsink to confirm the Hynix HY5DU283222 memory. Found this review here and its the same card, same gear, only the box is different. Oh it does also include the Call of Duty game.
This is a medium hot deal! The only reason I don't think it totally hot, is the fact that prices are dropping on the top end cards. Also, 256mb of memory doesn't seem to make much of a difference on most games. I'll give it a hot rating if I can get a price match in the next two weeks. Pricewatch still has the 256mb 5900 Ultra at over $300.
This deal is worthy of a new post. If Dork or someone else doesn't get to it soon I'll do it.
Thanks Dork.
Edit: A better look at the card here.
If you have a Frys near there is a possible PM here.
Appears to be the regular price so I have two weeks to wait for a sale.
The 128MB SE card does not require the heatsink on the back of the card since all its memory will fit on the front. Don't really need to open the card to verify the 256MB Ultra version since just looking through the little window on the packaging, you should see both the green PCB and the black heatsink on the back of the card.
Don't buy this card unless you have a good power supply. The last 5900 (non ultra that OC'ed to Ultra specs)card I got, required a new power supply since it was drawing so much more power (it has its own molex power connector) than the 4200ti it replaced, the system became unstable. One 520 watt PSU later and no problems.
While I had the heatsink off to take a look at the memory, I took this picture.
If you get in on this deal please post your location and store so we can see if a regional or retail vendor pattern emerges.
EDIT: CC rebate available online here.
I'm going to try to get the Pm to Fry's as well (should work as long as no one looks at a newly printed shelf tag) and get my price down to $170 +tax.
