CompUSA has the PNY GeForce FX 5900 Ultra AGP 256MB DDR for 20% off. The normal price is $499.99 and just got it for $399.99. NO REBATES to hassle with! This a B&M sale on 9/5 and 9/6 between 6:00 PM and Midnight.

Got one at $499.99 - 20% = $399.99 + tax. B&M only; shows sold out on line but here's the link. PNY offers a Lifetime Replacement Warranty.

PNY offers a Lifetime Replacement Warranty.

PNY defines "lifetime" as lifetime of the product, not *your* lifetime! So you get a replacement only for as long as the card is available at retail channels like compUSA (with this card, probably a few years).

Also you need to provide a copy of the original receipt or they will not honor the warranty. This happened to me and I could not argue that since it's "lifetime" and doesn't say original owner only it doesn't matter if you have a recipt or not.

I did win this argument with Circuit City since their sales guy had been the one pushing the warrany, and I got the stor manager to give me store credit for my broekn card and put it towards a newer card (this of course would be very YMMV)

Great card but still way out of my budget. Waiting for a deal at under $150. My GF4 Ti4800 will have to do till then.

Saw this when I was applying for a job @ compusa. Great deals, but ends today There's a LOT more deals there and everything seems to be on sale or something. 5900 non-ultra also has the 20% I think.

I'm tempted, but the problem is that I might spend as much on tax as I would trying to buy it off Newegg (450-470)

One thing to be cautious about is the CompUsa return policy. They charge a 15% restocking fee for opened returns. You might be better off trying to Pricematch this at Best Buy.

The 5900 non-ultras are now under $300 even at newegg (gainward = $289) so that's another choice to consider.

is there a link to the sale or anything? there is a 2 day sale link on compusa's homepage, but it doesn't have this card listed.

IS this really worth the extra money when you can get 9800 pro for quite a bit less?

A BIG hell no when you can get a 9800 Non-Pro for $250 from NewEgg and flash the bios and BAAM! 9800Pro.

I suspect that if the price is alot less then it's 128 MB and not 256 MB. Not questioning whether 256 MB is a waste of money or not; just the price difference.

True but it's still only 128 MB.

ParrotHeadToo what does your recipt say? I got the reg verison on friday morning. The sticker was listed as 279.99 and asked the lady what was the sale price being all pny cards were 20% off. She said the price was 279 and it was taken off instantly. I think I paid full price for it because the recipt doesnt say anything about being on sale or 20% off. and since when do stores update bin price stickers just for sales? they might have big signs like reg price then sale price but not this.

can anyone conform this? What is the current price for this card? the website lists 399.99 but do the math, 399 at 20% of isnt 279.

The 9800 non pro is really a better deal, I have not been happy with the performance price of the 5900 series.

My receipt has $399.99 on it; no other $ or % off numbers. The list price on line and at B&M is $499.99 so less the 20% you have $399.99.

As for what you bought, I see the list price is $279.99 and one would think that less 20% you get $223.99. I can only yell you that "buyer beware" because all of these retail stores have deals that border on the shady side at one time or another. Instead of wondering whether you paid full price or not, check and see how $279.99 compares with other retailers. If you find many retailers for less then do what you need to do, return the card and get it from another retailer. If you find many retailers for more, then keep the card and enjoy. But I do see your point and since the list price is $279.99 I would talk with a manager (try different managers at different times) or try a different store if you have more then one COmpUSA nearby.

Why not get the eVGA FX 5900 regular 128mb for $249 shipped from GameVE and overclock that past FX 5900 Ultra levels? With tax you're looking at $430 for PNY FX 5900 Ultra with wasted 128mb.

Both 5900 and 9700 NP are around $250 shipped. Both will overclock to or past Ultra and Pro speed with simple overclock or BIOS flash. Even if you have bad luck and get crappy card that won't overclock much, you still save $180 and get 5-10% less performance at most.

I went there last night and the guy scanned the card because the shelf price said $399. It came up as $279 but he refused to take 20% off it insisting somehow it was already 20% off even though 20% off $399 isn't $279. I think he was wrong, I passed on the deal! Did the 5900 Ultra scan at $499 or $399.

Why I Would Buy A $400 Graphics Card

It's simple when you think about it. The card lasts longer before becoming obsolete due to technology advances.

Case in point. I purchased a Sony Trinitron 17" SEII seven and a half years ago and paid $750 which was an outragous price in 1996. Crystal clear .24 pitch and it is still working fine seven half years years later. Cost per year to date is approximately $100. True the same monitor is between $200 and $250 today but that is because of the advancements in other technologies, i.e. LCD, Plasma, etc. Now I'm sure there are those who have a monitor that they paid $100 to $150 or less but the quality can not compare. I got what I felt was the best technological advanced monitor at its time and have been enjoying the quality for over last seven years. And maybe a few more years too.

So it goes with a graphics card. It really doesn't matter if it's a GeForce or ATI. Just make the investment into the best technology and enjoy. I realize that 256 MB of graphic memory may seem useless to some when compared to 128 MB but does anyone remember when 2 MB of RAM and a 10 MB hard drive were screaming?

Aren't you looking at the 128mb for $279.99? And the 256mb back up to $499.99?

What you say is true to a point. I don't think it applies to graphics cards that are literally outdated in about a year. A monitor is quite a different ballgame. Basically nothing changed on CRT monitors in the 7 years you had yours, prices just went down.

This is like buying the VERY FASTEST processor on the market. It offers 5-10% better performance at 50-100% higher cost. In a year, it will be outdated. Is it worth spending 50-100% more on a cpu or video card for 5-10% better performance, knowing that it will be outdated in one year? I think most people will answer "no."

Well I caved in a got this card last night.....(the 5900 ultra for $399)...it rang up as $399, didn't say anything about 20% off....i thought maybe i could get him to take 20% off of 399, but he went to a different computer and checked it and saw that the 20% had already been taken off.

anyway, starting to have 2nd thoughts about this card now after reading how piss poor it's pixel shadders are.....check out these reviews...the ati card totally owns this card..oh well, anyway , i won't be upgrading my vid card for some time, lol
