Just got back from Best Buy and bought a PNY GeForce FX5200 for $100. I was actually thinking of getting FX5200 Ultra but if I'm going to invest another $100 bucks I might as well decide between this or ATI 9500 PRO. I'm installing the card tonight and want to ask the group if you have any advice in installing the drivers. Tks.

I'm new to graphics card so bear with me. The box says 4 pixels per clock. and 256- graphics core or is there another way to check this?

I installed the card last night but haven't played with the settings except for Anisotropic and Anti-Aliasing which is set at 8X and 4X respectively. Any other settings you guys can tell me to improve my gaming experience. Thanks.

Go to www.Guru3d.com and get Riva Tuner, it will let you tweak and alter the cards output. Load it up and look for Mip Map LOD bias, it starts at 0 and farther negative you set it the sharper the textures appear. However too much of it can make textures sparkle.

In the driver screen where you selected AA & AF you can select what kind of performance you want - Application Quality and one other. Select application, the other two compromise image quality for speed.

The humor is indelible Nick, go ahead and crap that card out.

256 Bus and Pixels per clock are meaningless to you or I. The only measure that really matters is how frequently the video card draws the image on the screen and if it looks good (I hope I'm not insulting you here.) If you wondering about the quality of the card or how it compares - its slower than most of the Nvidias previous generation the Geforce 4 line unless your running Anti Aliasing or Anisotropic Filtering. But the 5200 is cheaper than most everything else so its your call. Anti Aliasing smooths out jagged lines but reduces your framerate. Anisotropic Filtering improves image quality but costs fps.

Dont expect too much from this card guys and gals. Out of Nvidia's new line of cards, this is the slowest one you can buy. Expect severe crippling.

My old computer had GeForce2 MX400 and I never had probelms playing CS. With FX5200, I was having a hard time with the game. I went to BestBuy to return the card but they were close today(Easter Sunday). I'm getting the ATI 9500 PRO 128MB instead, its another $100 bucks but hey I'll feel better playing the games online. Since I still have the card, I'll try downloading Riva Tuner and see what improvement I get.

I'm looking forward to seeing your results. Is it possible that there was some sort of driver conflict or installation glitch with the 5200? Surely the 5200 (even if it is the slowest of the new Nvidia cards) should eat an MX400 for lunch.

At some point could you run 3DMark2001SE w/the 5200? It would be interesting to see the fill rates for that card. Thanks again for the updates.

My FX5200 performs better than my old GF4MX440 so it should perform better than a MX400!

With 3dmark 2001 SE the fill rate for my FX5200 is:-

Fill Rate (Single-Texturing) 628.1 MTexels/s
Fill Rate (Multi-Texturing) 731.4 MTexels/s

With 3dmark 2001 SE the fill rate for my GF4MX440 is:-

Fill Rate (Single-Texturing) 443.1 MTexels/s
Fill Rate (Multi-Texturing) 845.6 MTexels/s

The main problem with the FX5200 is the drivers, the two main problems are poor RTCW and Serious Sam 2 performance, ie sub GF4 MX440 level.

I returned my FX5200 today and got ATI 9500 PRO 128MB. I'm installing it as I type this message. I'm installing Catalyst and do you recommend I do Express or Custom?
