PNY pc2700

i see that newegg is selling this ram at a pretty competitive pricepoint and it says "samsung original." When PNY says that, do they mean it's samsung chips on a samsung PCB or just the chips?

also, if anyone has any recommendations for cheap(relatively speaking) pc2700 or pc3200 that can hit 200mhz at 2.6v or less i would love to hear them.

you might have good luck with Crucial DIMMs but with the Samsung probably not. Samsung is not known for overclocking well.. although it's very stable at stock speeds (in my findings)

natopotato, I too was looking at that 512MB PNY (Samsung Original) at Newegg for 90 shipped ~15 min ago! There is also Samsung Original oem PC2700 for 103.50 + 5.00 ship, but the PNY is the better deal for sure. I am going to hold out for another week and let the prices drop a little more.

that's my reason for interest too. I wish that the two were priced the same (or even within a buck or two) then i'd just go samsung. but an $18 price disparity sure makes that PNY tempting

If you're going with the PNY, expect to keep it at stock settings. My PNY pc2100 has trouble doing 269 (from 266 default) with the most conservative timings.

Seems like alot of companies use samsung chips. I picked up a cheapo stick of memory from the BX on base. The chips all had samsung on them.

just noticed something that will hopefully help myself and some others pondering the same decision. the part number newegg lists
M368L6423DTL-CB3

turns out is a samsung part number

check it out

also one user review says that it is samsung original. the samsung data sheet seems to all but confirm the report.

Yeah I know. I was just making a comment on how many companies are selling sticks with samsung chips but aren't using the pcb, hence they aren't "samsung original".
