I stopped by my local BB today and found a number of PNY Ti4200's 64mb, minus the 64mb crushes the 128mb sticker on it. The price change was as of 3/23 returning to $169 from $79. Their big promo this weekend is the 10% off coupon. Still not a bad deal for the average Joe who wants a super 128Mb card for $152. Some creative price matching and you are on your way.
For those of you who have missed out, PNY is packing 128Mb Ti4200 Verto Geforce cards in their 64Mb boxes. You must make sure that there is no 2" starburst on the front right hand side of the box which states "64Mb crushes 128Mb". Open the new carton and voila, instant upgrade. Boy do the graphics fly. I had purchased two under the original $139 deal back in February via price match. It really broke my heart to have to go back to BB and take advantage of the 30 day price protection. Two of those babies for $160 plus tax!
Why would PNY do this, you ask? They are just nice people with lots of friends at AT and FW.

I bought a couple of these during the sale, the boxes without the "crushes" stickers. Although they were 8x cards, they were only 64 meg. I don't think there's any guarantee you'll get a 128 meg card in these boxes.

I returned a purple PCB 64mb card and exchanged it for a no starburst box....turned out to be a blue PCB 64mb card labeled Ti4280 with a different HSF than the face one. this thing overclocks like a mutha.....310/345 rock solid

The UPC and all the labeling on the board are different than the purple cards.

again, I know people (me being one of them) got an 8x 128 MB card from a box WITH the sticker on it so I think you just buy it and hope for the best

I assume you all have seen the thread on FW stating that these things will be 89.99 AR at BB starting on 3-30. dont know where the poster got his info but I went ahead and picked one up today 169...ouch!!! (like papahurls said they had a bunch of them right after last weeks sale) I am not opening it If they do go on sale and have a 40 dollar rebate I will do a return/repurchase next week...if they dont go on sale it will simply be a return!!! Actually the 10% sale ends Sat at close and supposedly this sale starts Sun ....we shall see....patience young one!

Ditto for my local Circuit City. They just put out some boxes without stickers. I bought one hoping to find a 128 meg card, but it was only a 64 meb/ AGP 8x card.

Just got 2 of the NO sticker variety from BB that were the 128meg 8Xagp models.

I went in with my reciept from the 79.99 sale and they PM'ed me to that price. I told them I needed 2 more for my wife's and son's computer, and they had run out when I bought the other one.

They had 2 left in the Chula Vista, Ca. store, for my fellow San Diego AT'ers.

Anyway we can use the 10% now and still get in on the rebate? Has anyone seen a scan of the rebate?

I know.. I did receive a new order acknowledgement today from BB on my backordered cards. I wonder if this means that they will be filling my order soon?

Just checked my online order again and it's still "backordered".

Does anyone think it would work to bring a printout of the order status from the bb.com wesite to a bb B&M to try to get one for $79.99(assuming they have stock in the store as other have reported)?

Our local BB just got a new batch in and the one I got has the blue circuit board, 64mb, 8x agp, memory chips/coolers on both sides. It does not look anything like previous versions of PNY cards; in fact, the only place it says PNY is a small sticker on the fan. It looks like they got a good deal on cards from another company and put them in a PNY box.

Yeah we should make that a big IF. I bought the same thing from CC a few weeks back when Compusa had it going. for 99 after rebate. Got rebate already too.

But there's no guarantee you'll be getting an 8x 128. But of the 2 CC I went to, I both end up with an 8x card. So atleast you'll be getting an 8x card. 64 or 128 it varies.

heh, that's nothing I've seen guys at target intentionally crash a whole row of boxes on the truck bed coz they r too lazy to move them from the top. It's an everyday practice. Not their stuff + low wages = why should they give a f***?

Same thing at the car dealer ships. Break in? what break in? They red line and floor those new cars to and fro the storage yard no warm up or nothing.

I did no damage, and removed nothing. I had no interest in buying one as I'm broke...low wages+3 kids= broke. My interest was purely curiosity. At the store I work at we do not sell open box graphics cards... There were still four on the shelf till one man came in yesterday and bought them all to return on sunday and get them for $89 after mir... So he could resell them I'm sure

Work ethic - that's why anyone gives a f**k. What's wrong with doing a good job or even a half a**ed job that doesn't screw a person like me just going to a store? It bothered you, or else you wouldn't have even mentioned the target experience. Don't want to get off track here, but this guy opened sealed packages, maybe scuffed his feet on the floor and stuck them into a powered up computer to test them - or used his xray vision memory testor - and stuffed them back in a package for resale for potential dopes like me to buy, thinking I got a factory sealed and tested product.

If I want to take chances on getting something value added for my purchase so be it, I just didn't think problems like this are bottom up - as opposed to me bit**ing about big corporate bb.
