I listen to a lot of audio while at work and commuting.
I like being able to learn while doing other tasks.
For about a year or so I've been consuming mostly lectures. A few courses from The Great Courses on particle physics and one on Ancient Egypt, some free UCSD courses on ancient Greek history and economics, and a few random partial listens of other topics/courses.
Then I decided to finally check out TWiT (This Week in Tech, a podcast network) after seeing it mentioned here in various threads over a few years and got into nearly all the podcasts they offer. I especially like Tech News Today, Security Now, Windows Weekly, All About Android, This Week in Google, Home Theater Geeks, This Week in Computer Hardware, This Week in Law, Macbreak Weekly, and Know How. Then I branched out into more mobile podcasts like Android Police and Android Central's respective podcasts, iMore on the Apple side of things, and WP Central for Windows Phone podcasts. For deeper computer hardware coverage I've been enjoying AnandTech's podcasts (of course).
So I think I'm covered on tech stuff, but could use more podcasts and/or lectures to listen to. I'm mainly interested in ancient history, science, and technology. When football starts up again I usually listen to football/fantasy football radio and podcasts so I have that covered. But for any other topics - politics, economics, science news (which reminds me, I've also started listening to TWiS), law, culture/anthropology, etc. - I want more material to absorb. Assume I have a rudimentary understanding of the subjects at best; I don't want to jump into a high-level topic where it's hard to pick up on the terminology. I'm not really interested in psychology (unless rooted in biology/neurology) or art, but I'm open to those topics if you know of good podcasts or lectures on the subjects. My taste in music is pretty diverse, and I usually just listen to one radio show, Soundcheck, to pick up on different music and interviews. So I'm covered in that area for now at least.
I've listened to a few TED talks, but I only enjoy them once in a while. They tend to go more for the inspirational and aspirational side than I like, but part of that is simply because most of the talks are one-off to a wide audience, so it's to be expected.
I'd prefer content that's free, or relatively cheap if possible. Also open to audio books, but I prefer podcasts and lectures because the "delivery" seems more natural and conversational which makes it easier for me to focus on. What do you guys listen to and recommend?
