I listen to a lot of audio while at work and commuting.
I like being able to learn while doing other tasks.
For about a year or so I've been consuming mostly lectures. A few courses from The Great Courses on particle physics and one on Ancient Egypt, some free UCSD courses on ancient Greek history and economics, and a few random partial listens of other topics/courses.

Then I decided to finally check out TWiT (This Week in Tech, a podcast network) after seeing it mentioned here in various threads over a few years and got into nearly all the podcasts they offer. I especially like Tech News Today, Security Now, Windows Weekly, All About Android, This Week in Google, Home Theater Geeks, This Week in Computer Hardware, This Week in Law, Macbreak Weekly, and Know How. Then I branched out into more mobile podcasts like Android Police and Android Central's respective podcasts, iMore on the Apple side of things, and WP Central for Windows Phone podcasts. For deeper computer hardware coverage I've been enjoying AnandTech's podcasts (of course).

So I think I'm covered on tech stuff, but could use more podcasts and/or lectures to listen to. I'm mainly interested in ancient history, science, and technology. When football starts up again I usually listen to football/fantasy football radio and podcasts so I have that covered. But for any other topics - politics, economics, science news (which reminds me, I've also started listening to TWiS), law, culture/anthropology, etc. - I want more material to absorb. Assume I have a rudimentary understanding of the subjects at best; I don't want to jump into a high-level topic where it's hard to pick up on the terminology. I'm not really interested in psychology (unless rooted in biology/neurology) or art, but I'm open to those topics if you know of good podcasts or lectures on the subjects. My taste in music is pretty diverse, and I usually just listen to one radio show, Soundcheck, to pick up on different music and interviews. So I'm covered in that area for now at least.

I've listened to a few TED talks, but I only enjoy them once in a while. They tend to go more for the inspirational and aspirational side than I like, but part of that is simply because most of the talks are one-off to a wide audience, so it's to be expected.

I'd prefer content that's free, or relatively cheap if possible. Also open to audio books, but I prefer podcasts and lectures because the "delivery" seems more natural and conversational which makes it easier for me to focus on. What do you guys listen to and recommend?

Podcasts I listen to:

America's Test Kitchen - cooking
The Splendid Table - cooking
Marketplace - economics/ finance
Planet Money - economics/finance
Wait Wait Don't Tell Me... - hilarious
To The Point - wide range of issues, really well made
Left, Right, and Center - politics
Stuff You Should Know - general stuff, light and fun
This American Life - not sure how to describe
Science Friday - science

Generally this is enough material to get me through the week. One of favorites, It's All Politics, just had its last show.

Also the London School of Economics puts out some good stuff as well. They record the guest speakers on a whole range of topics.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. - Ancient history in some cases.

I'll second this.

The BBC puts out a wide range of podcasts that are really good as well.

I like Stand to Reason and Let My People Think but those are Apolegitic podcasts.

What I currently have it boiled down to these days (And I used to listen to a lot of the TWIT network, but I don't like Leo's shit anymore):

AnandTech Podcast
The Moth Podcast (Great podcast. Truly. Check out their youtube channel as well. They finally started uploading a lot of videos of great stories that they've sent out over the podcast. There's still a lot that I remember thinking, "Wow, wonderful story... Can relate." And then because they only show the last 5-6 weeks or so, it went away when I formatted my comp. )

PC Perspective: HIGHLY recommend. Best tech podcast out there, basically. It's great when Ryan is actually on the show, but over the past few months he's been gone a lot! Best to watch in video but can get by in audio. (Youtube)

Savage Lovecast. I haven't been listening to this as much over the past few months (I have like 20 episodes I haven't listened to). But, it's great. The old episodes are timeless and worth a listen.

The Skeptics Guide To The Universe. Also fantastic. Been listening for over 5 years. By far the best skeptic podcast. Old episodes are still worth listening to! (Has been Ad-free for almost the whole time. They just started doing advertisements though and it's annoying since I've listened for so long without ads)

Stuff You Should Know. Also great.

another +1 for Hardcore History

"The History of Rome Podcast" would probably also be up your alley. the podcast itself has ended (because the Roman Empire ended), but all the back episodes are available.

starts with the pre-Roman Italians all the way to the beyond the fall of the Roman Empire.

I just completed listening to the Wrath of Khans series from hardcore history. Fucking brilliant and he cites many sources and adds a different take of his own.

Also check out his commonsense podcast which is pretty cool as well.
