For single-port PoE injectors, I like the PowerDsine ones by Microsemi.

Yes, but with your hodge podge of switches it may be better to just get a 24 port PoE switch. Make sure to watch just how many 15.4 watt ports it can power.

To make your network easy peasy

I don't want to spend $400 for a 24 port POE switch for 2 maybe three POE devices. My network is already setup and I inquired about POE Injectors. Whey do you think these devices were made...to add to your existing network.

Because he is a very good network guy, that's why. He is giving you a recommendation of simplifying your network to make it more reliable and down the road overall more cost efficient.

And probably faster - a $400 switch would have a lot more processing/switching power/capacity than a bunch of those 5 and 8 port jobs.

But there are probably infrastructure (wires in walls) issues necessitating the mini-switches.

YES...so that's why I asked specifically about the injectors.

If I asked should I redo my network or what do you think of clutter of switches I could understand his response no matter how well of his network knowledge.

802.3af is a standard, feel free to use any power injector that adheres to this. Any in the last 7 years or so would be. Again, pay attention to the output depending on what device you're trying to power. Newer PoE+ can go more than a PoE class3 device which is helpful for things like higher power APs and video cameras/phones.

So just make sure you're matching the output of the injector to what it's powering.

Now that's what i was looking for. Thanks spidey07

So for example if I was going to use a foscam camera it might be best to use this manufactures injector or get the specs of the injector or camera to match the other manufactures injector.

You mentioned in an earlier post to use a large switch. Would a switch flex the power to each device?

If the device manufacturer sells their own injector, read the spec sheet very very carefully. It might be nonstandard.

Agreed. But if it mentions 802.3af or PoE then it is a standard PoE device and would work with any PoE injector.

Regarding PoE+, that's also a standard. A PoE+ switch would power any PoE or PoE+ device. The device requests the power it needs and the switch grants it, so long as it has enough power output to do so.

From the foscam link of the OP, their injector is PoE 802.3af. So just your run of the mill PoE power injector.

The Active PoE Injector consists of one Ethernet input (data only) port and one output (data + power) port that is designed for small or medium network environments. This product can convert standard 100-240V AC power into low voltage DC power that runs over an existing LAN cable to power up IEEE 802.3af compliant network accessories. It also features PoE awareness to verify whether the network device receiving power is IEEE 802.3af compliant, or only the data will be sent through LAN cable. By adding the Active PoE Splitter to existing non-PoE networking equipment, installing networking products such as the Foscam IP Cameras can easily be performed.
