Having a hard time justifying between an s4/s5 or a canon 200 - 300 dollar P/S camera.

I know the P/S will take better photo's. But I don't want to lug around two devices and have to charge up two devices. I think I am really leaning towards a cell phone because even tho, I know my nexus 7 is bigger and better surfing the net than my cell, I refuse to take two devices and charge them up leaving the nexus unused to use my cellphone instead.

What's the best camera phone for andorid? I was thinking an S4 or S5 would probably be my best choice. Anyone else have any opinions? Thanks! Even thought about apple but, don't want to buy into apples closed system even tho the camera might be better.

I only have my s5 for two days and haven't really gotten into the camera yet and I only had my s4 for a few months before I got the Note 3 but I can say the note 3 did take slightly better pics than the s4 and the few pictures I took on the s5 have looked amazing so far.

aren't nokia phones acknowledged as having the best cameras in phones?

My Moto X takes surprisingly good photos.

you could look at the Oppo Find 7/7A

http://www.gizchina.com/2014/03/26/oppo-find-7-review-best-oppo-yet/

or the Sony Z2

problem with cell phone cameras is that they usually have smaller sensors than dedicated cameras (can be resolved with better optics/algorithms), and no optical zoom

In about to post some drop box links in my thread with some untouched pictures and videos from my Find 7a.

If I were going on a trip and needed to make the choice you're making, I would take the point and shoot.

If I absolutely wanted to take just one device, it would be the Nokia Lumia 1020, no contest.

P&S for one reason.

An optical zoom makes the world of difference when taking casual photos.

The best camera is the one you have with you. It's not convenient for most people to carry another camera with them. Of course a dedicated camera will be better but many great pictures are ones that are spur of the moment.

At this point I would not recommend a point and shoot. I would recommend that you buy a mirrorless 'bridge camera' (DSLR sensor in a smaller body) if you want to do serious photography (vacations, family portraits, and planned outings) or just use a smartphone as an 'always carry with you' camera.

I think the Galaxy S5 probably has the best camera on Android right now. The iPhone 5s has a good camera if you like iPhones (but might want to wait for the iPhone 6), and the Lumia 1020 is the best for Windows.

The lens on a high-end point and shoot is untouchable by any smartphone camera for obvious reasons. i.e. Panasonic Lumix LX7, Sony RX100, Canon S120, etc.

If you REALLY need a camera that takes good shots in low light, a high-end P&S with a bright lens is a must. Additional dibs on the creative shots you can come up with using those cameras.

If we're talking about shots from a pure usability standpoint, I'm pretty sure a mid-range to high-end smartphone is more than enough. I've got both an iPhone 5 and Galaxy S4 and I use them a lot more frequently than my LX7 simply because they're good enough in most lighting conditions and they're far more convenient.

Again, no contest.

If I'm choosing a phone based solely on the camera capabilities, it's the Nokia Lumia 1020.

The Galaxy K Zoom would get some consideration, but it doesn't come out until the end of may and definitely waiting for reviews, because the Galaxy S4 Zoom had pretty bad IQ.
