It's funny, the first Doom iteration was released in '93, has had far fewer iterations than Pokemon has had (not to mention more movies, and TV series => 1), and yet nobody was losing their shit over a new doom game.

Must be because it's mobile and popular? Or because it uses more primary colors?

I walked a mile yesterday to play Pokemon, I am at level 4 & trying to hatch an egg. A lot of people don't understand they don't need to stare at their phones, you will get a buzz notification when a Pokemon is nearby.

I got out in the sun, I walked, I talked to lots of people doing the same thing, not a bad day for a cancer patient.

Or because millions more people actually play Pokemon-related games?

Also, Doom is pretty much like any other FPS games today, so there's no novelty.

Sorry, to clarify, I didn't mean popularity. I meant 'losing their shit' as in, getting all uppity and angryfaced about people actually enjoying it. 'Murr, kids and their cellphones enjoying old games!'... that kind of thing.

It is super isn't it? It's such a cute game. I got into the pokemon because my son loved it when he was a child and now, as a 20 something he is going all kinda silly over this new pokemon. He showed it to me. It's really neat and I just downloaded it today. I already do alot of walking so this is just fine.

Really draws alot of battery life though.....my poor old droid mini gets hot to the touch!

I was in the grocery store last night buying eggs. A group of five or six teenaged kids comes up and asks if I'm playing Pokemon GO. ??? They then go nuts buying eggs.

"Grab 18."

"No, that's only 12."

"No, the other ones."

"Yeah, we're totally going to cook these eggs."

Im 50 and I am playing this. I'm level 10 and have over 100 pokemon. My Son and I went out this weekend (hes 21) and we walked all over NYC Chinatown collecting pokemon and talking to people. How is this a bad thing?

Malls pretty much exist, and still are in business due to the existence of 12-17 year olds.

I always thought Pokemon was a childish thing in the late 90s. Now to see people in their 20s and 30s playing this just makes the whole thing even more ridiculous.

It is, those children never grew up...

the age cutoff for it is pretty funny. im 34 and I have never played a single second of any Pokémon game, ever. I had to look it up, the first one came to the US when I was a junior in HS. I hadn't had a Gameboy since I was like 10.

I have friends who are a cpl years younger then I am and apparently this game is the second coming

I first heard about this crap today when my co-worker showed me an article about the mobile app statistics for the game. Like it reached more users than Tinder in just two days and stuff like that. Then another co-worker just told me to get the game because it's awesome. Yeah, sorry, never had an interest in Pokemon crap and I find that shit kiddie as fuck. I guess people my age (33) play it, and whatever, but I have no interest in that. Others probably think playing Crusader Kings II or World or Warships is as lame as I think Pokemon bullshit is.

You must be sooooo popular and fun at parties. Its a fun game. Like all games, there will be extremists and normal players. Hell, I know a few "serious" chess players who are the biggest aholes in the world. Let the P-GO people have their fun.

I'm a few years away from you on the downside. Think I was in grades 1 to 6 when Pokemon became a thing. Ya, I watched the TV show, it was on after school. Think you were a loser back then if you still liked this stuff in high school -- not sure that's true anymore with the hipsters.

Just don't throw your phone thinking it is a pokemon ball ok?

How will you choose Pikachu then...

Apparently Nintendo's stock jumped 25% because of the success of Pokemon Go even though they didn't develop it.

If that doesn't drive home the point to Nintendo that they could make WAY more just porting games to the App Store and Play Store than any sort of "new" console can make then they deserve to die as a company.

I am sure Nintendo is reaping financial rewards just in licensing. But yeah, either support your freaking consoles with quality software or port it. My Wii U is capable of so much but it gets ignored.

Pokemon was awesome as a kid. I was all in with the GameBoy, trading card game (seriously a freaking awesome game), and TV show when it was on.

Then I grew out of it.

But I am always on a precarious ledge, looking to buy the latest GameBoy just so I can buy another Pokemon game. The game, while dressed in kid colors, is actually quite popular with folks in their mid-to-late 20s. Basically, the generation that grew up with the original games. It's a satisfying game, for sure.

And yes, I hopped on the Pokemon Go bandwagon, but, I only have one foot in, the other is dragging behind. I haven't actually went anywhere to go hunting, I just use it while on the go seeing what I can find without deviating from the course, or leaving my seat at a restaurant/bar.
I was all in when I was younger too. It's where my username came from that I still use to this day for everything. It was even on my vanity license plate of that era (still have it on display in my man-cave). I played the hell out of Red, Yellow, Gold, and Silver. Went to Pokémon tournaments with my level 100 team. Collected the cards. Had to buy multiple cases to hold them all. I had at least 6 custom decks, and I've got a 5" binder filled to capacity with each set up until I stopped collecting them somewhere around 2005. Still have all of them, though.

I have no interest in any of the new games, movies, any Pokémon with a number above 251, and definitely no interest in GO, and kind of getting tired of all the posts on Facebook about it. I consider myself a retired Pokémon Master. One that you might meet on the road near some tall grass, reminiscing to the new Pokémon rookie about the days of old.

25% rise in value kind of rewards? I bet not. This stock price rise is the market rewarding Nintendo for finally making a good a modern decision.

That is especially sad when you consider that modern ARM SoCs are near the Wii U in power, so they could port every Wii U game to say a Nvidia Shield and despite lacking the stupid controller it would have the power to work fine. They need to partner with Apple to develop for the AppleTV rather than waste money on another console that PS4 and Xbone bros won't buy.

The real money maker would be Virtual Console on iOS, they would make more money reselling NES-era Mario than they made off of every Wii U game sold combined.
