I think overall Pokemon Go is great. I've noticed more people of all ages out at the local parks going for walks, and talking to each other. Sure, some people are distracted, and get in the way of bike riders (or maybe the bike rider is even looking at their phone, lol), but I love seeing so many people outside in my community.

On my daily walks/runs, I've seen adult couples in their 40s walking around and having fun looking for pokemon together, a lot more kids at the parks, having fun fighting each other at the gym, and walking around the duck pond looking for water pokemon, nonathletic looking HS kids walking around together looking for pokemon, it's pretty cool, I think. Most people at my work play, and they'll walk around to nearby pokestops on their breaks...

The only little thing with it, is I hate how the game isn't active with the screen off. It can be a little too distracting. My hope is that the Pokémon GO Plus will largely solve that particular problem.

Battery saver mode, put phone upside down in pocket. It dims the screen but the app still running and logging distance. Pull it out when it vibrates or you know you're at the next pokestop assuming you know the ones in your area.

This is why we need to have cell & WiFi jammers.
These idiots are looking at their phone, not paying attention where they are walking / riding / biking, and caused all sorts of problems today.

Was at the mall, and there was a pack (20+) of kids from 12-17 all looking at their phone walking around like they own the place. They run into people, small kids, people with strollers... they just don't care.
Was a real mess. The mall "security" guards were a joke, they would tell them to leave, and they just kept on playing the game. Finally, someone called the cops, and they broke up this crowd.

Outside the mall was just as bad, people slamming on their brakes trying to get to some location, speeding around the parking lot trying to catch whatever.

I counted 6 accidents outside, with one idiot leaving the scene to go catch whatever, and his friends were cheering him on.

Sigh.

On that note, they should put a pedometer or something to measure your distance traveled while playing. Though would be nice if they could remove the "you were in a car" distances.

There's a 12 MPH limit so it's kind of hard to log too much distance in a car, but I still get a some in traffic...

December 2013. Ingress wasn't made to make Pokemon, it was made to improve Googles mapping of footpaths.

They didn't have to be working on Pokemon Go or something similar to be "working on" their actual product: The database that enables it. Ingress was made to develop a sell-able product out of that info. They "sold" it when they spun off Niantic and partnered with Nintendo. They knew what they were doing even if they didn't specifically know who was going to use it or how. No doubt, there is a TON of data being mined from Go players too.

Ingress is a sellable product. It's pretty popular, obviously not as popular as pokemon go but it is a finished product in its own right.

I don't think you understand: that game was more of a test market to prepare for this game. It was only December and you'd better believe Pokemon was already in the works. They specifically used that game to crowd-source places to use as Pokestops/PokeGyms in this game.

iPhones log all this in the built-in Health app anyway.

A few hours ago, I was hit by a pokemon go idiot.
I was at a red light, and him and his friends (10+) were all walking across the street, when the fool decided to do a face plant on the hood.
His friends were all laughing their heads off at him, he kept saying "shutup!". One said you are supposed to catch pokemons not pokecars!
All the other drivers in the cars around me were laughing as well.

How much longer before this game dies down?

No, Americans are just downright fat. i'm not offended at all. that's what makes Pokemon Go so amazing, it's the only thing in years that has brought people outside of their homes.

I have been playing PokemonGo non stop recently and I haven't encounter any real life Snorlaxe's as of yet. We have a Pokemon society at Uni and we go Poke hunting together and we can confirm we seen no fatties yet
This is UK btw no idea where all the heavy people are hiding at.

It seems there is a exponential curve for game difficulty going on, the higher level you are, the harder it is to get the low level guys, so, once everyone gets to that level, the game will die down since nobody wants to pay to play.
